BeSpoked 2024 - Manchester

Post by voodoo_simon »

Just saw BeSpoked is going to Manchester in June ‘24

Always fancied it but never fancied Bristol or London for a day out

Hopefully I’ll be able to keep one of those days free to see it :-bd

I went a couple of times when it was at Bristol Temple Meads and it was great. At one point someone local who we used to ride with (read try and keep up with) who started building frames was exhibiting, which was a bonus.

Well worth an afternoon if you're into the details of bike building. Usually some interesting talks going on as well; I remember going to one about 3D titanium printed lugs. :-bd

I also went to a Bristol one quite a few years ago and it was great. Really interesting and picked up some good freebie stickers too :-bd

I bought a bike on the back of the first Bristol show, it then went on display at the London show the following year.

I got chatting with Craig Calfee at Bespoked in Bristol a few years ago. He was talking about a cunning technique for drilling out branches of Douglas Fir which apparently has an even better strength to weight ratio than bamboo.

Bugga - that’s when we’re on holiday.
I’ve been to one before - loved it. I definitely came back more geeky

Should be there Saturday along with a few of the grass up the middle brigade.

There's a #coffeeoutside on Friday morning too if anyone's in the city early. Hosted by Keep Pedalling and Wizard Works, meeting Mayfield Park (near Piccadilly station) 8-9am.

When I booked it, I was quite excited to go but now it’s our week of summer weather, I know what you mean! Still, will give me a day to explore Manchester, not been in a while and last time I had mini voodoo, so no pubs that day :|

Hadn't realised it was at Victoria Baths! My mates had a flat directly opposite that in about 1997 when I was at Uni in Manchester and the Baths were just a dilapidated shell that people were trying to raise money to reopen. Good to see it being used for these sort of things. :-bd

Went with a couple of mates Friday & Saturday, was full of interesting bike geekery & hipsters!
Got a go on a 36er

Saw Martin but no other Boners, did see a lad (Ralph) from the Veneto Trail event 2 years ago tho..
The baths was a great venue & i'd definitely go again if it was in Manchester :-bd

I was there on Friday too, but I don't think we've met IRL, so little chance of recognition. Some cool and interesting stuff, with Sour Bikes clearly aiming for the bikepacking market:
