Oh my...Angus and Cattrysse Manu are about 500m apart....its gonna be fierce racing right to the end now!!!!! Whos got enough fuel and legs to nail this! Its going to be a huge mental lift for Cattrysse Manu when he reaches Angus and this could power him on!?

Re: HT550 2023
It’s blooming hot up here. Also quite windy (but not as bad as Saturday which was a right hoolie) Cath said that going up Glen Cassley(after Oykel Bridge) was hard work.
Hard to compare times since the course varies from year to year but going out to Poolewe rather than the Postman’s path (as in 2017 when Neil B set the fastest time) is a couple of hours slower.

8mins separation, insanely close for such a long " race"
Will they be able to see each other for those who have done the route?

Re: HT550 2023
They're close enough that they appear to be over taking each other constantly due to pinging at different times
Re: HT550 2023
Yeah, at some points over the devil's staircase there is probably enough visibility to see that far. The west highland way in the middle of a nice day, even a weekday, will be reasonably busy so they'll be able to see other walkers and cyclists too so won't necessarily know if they're seeing other racers or not.

thanks for the infoYeah, at some points

Re: HT550 2023
How long until they’re at the finish line?
I know, how long is a piece of string, but I need to go out but don’t want to miss it

Re: HT550 2023
Surely they'll just roll in together after all that? Will they still be fired up to beat each other? If so, I don't understand the mindset. Each to their own I guess.

Re: HT550 2023
No way will Angus roll in! He will be going full gas all the way! Hes just put in a couple of miles on him - hes going hard!
Re: HT550 2023
about a mile apart now but still incredibly close for an event of this distance
third and fourth looks even closer

Re: HT550 2023
Fair enough, good luck to them both. Would love to know what food they're craving - maybe just sleep.
Sofiane will be third.third and fourth looks even closer

Its all down hill here and non technical - Angus will be giving is his full 400watts of power now! It will be tough to catch him.

Easy ground to lose concentration on.
They need to finish before about 18:15 to beat Neil’s time

Re: HT550 2023
I just created a strava segment from their current position called "Go Angus Go Go Go" from my time last year.
I did it in 1hr 32min.
I expect they will be 10-15min faster, so put them over the finish line at 4pm!
New record in the making!
Distance
16.55km
Elevation Gain
375m
Avg Grade
0.2%

That's so cool, thanks Alex. He can look at that segment once recovered and wonder how a segment named afyer him got thereAlexinthepeaks wrote: ↑Tue May 30, 2023 2:49 pm I just created a strava segment from their current position called "Go Angus Go Go Go" from my time last year.

Re: HT550 2023
There’s construction work going on where the route meets the outward bound leg again. I got held up by the banksman till it was safe to pass yesterday. Eek!
