Sierra Nevada Spain anyone been?
Heading out next Friday flying to Malaga then bus to Granada to start any tips recommendations on cheap accommodation and places to leave a bike box. Looking at the route looks fairly remote any must visit villages for food/beer stop overs?
Cheers Rich

Which route are you doing? You may find the peaks such as Valeta and Mulhacen snow bound, the deserts of Gorafe and Tabernas are within reach and pretty spectacular. The first edition of the Badlands was a good circular route before they started abandoning riders on the wrong side of the Siera Nevada due to being refused permission to ride through the National Park. Sorry can't help with leaving a bike box.

Valeta this morning
Re: Sierra Nevada Spain anyone been?
Capiera, Bubion and Pampaniera are worth a look from memory if you are in that area. There is a great descent off Veleta but as Duncan says will probably be loads of snow.

There's a campsite about 2km W of Trevelez that has small A frame cabins that are cozy and pretty cheap, the village is at 1,500m so you may be glad of the warmth, it's got a decent restaurant as well. Hope you've got your climbing legs on.

Planning on doing this on 18th. Was thinking cycling from malaga, do a loop of the Sierra Nevada and bus/car/hitch back to malaga. What bus are you thinking to get to granada? With bike boxed up or not?
Also fretting about gear choice!

Weird. I'm considering doing this in April
Was going to do a version of the Altravesur starting from Malaga but not sure I can be arsed with the faff of the train journeys needed.

Rode that a fair while ago, it’s nice.
So long ago that I don’t really have any tips, except to get water when you can. Not all sources on the map were real, though it was very dry when I went.

Guessing you didn't fancy doing the Spanish Divide from the 7th to 16th of April, I invited you in December but no response. There's 8 of us this year. Logistics taken care of, no trainsWas going to do a version of the Altravesur starting from Malaga but not sure I can be arsed with the faff of the train journeys needed.

I've got a feeling April might be my only chance at a big solo ride this year so I'm leaning in that direction.

Transnevada was amazing ! perfect conditions day time around 25 degrees a few nights it got below zero. Lots of blossums mountain flowers and it seemed butterflies everywhere. 5 days average 65 miles a day then 45 on the last which was a lot harder than I thought it would be.
Flew into Malaga late 11pm slept in Arrivals untill the 8.30am bus to Granada 12 euros 2 hours.
Bus station to Hostel was 9 euros in a taxi
Checked in at the hostel to book the last two nights and leave bike box and a small bag containing spare clothes.
Cycled the 18 km to the start following a Komoot route took 2 hours with a beer stop, had food started riding at 6pm, decided I did not have the legs so just climbed to 6000ft for an early night.
Rode the route slept beside a castle in a spanish bothy and above 6000ft the other nights!checked in at the Hostel for two days recovery and some sight seeing Granada is an amazing place the Alhambra is a must do place to vist 19 euros! but book in advance or try at 12am to get some resell tickets.
