My boy is turning 3 in May, in the past we have gone car camping with a travel cot and he has slept in there with his bedding from home. He's outgrown his travel cot though, so now looking for his 1st sleeping bag. I'm looking at going camping at the end of April so could still be cold on a night. Apparently temp ratings don't apply to kids sleeping bags so it's hard for me to compare. He's ~95cms tall so not many bags are specified for his height. Is it a case of carry on using his duvet or maybe a quilt?

I have been using (or rather daughter has) a Big Agnes Little Red (https://www.bigagnes.com/products/little-red-15) since she was about 2.5/3 years old. Used it down to about 5 degrees C
Thermarest goes in the back as it's build sort of like a topbag, so that when they squirm, it stays underneath them. She loves it. It's her "big red slug" and is still using it aged 6. We will probably get another year, maybe two if she slows down growing! Which she does not look like doing.
Sometimes we've woken up to find her down the bottom of it. She's not died yet. But we've in the past had the foot vent open just to ensure she doesn't get Co2 poisoning :)

Mine used the Vaude de one you link to[ assuming its the one that you can increase the size off] and they worked well
Forget how many years use i got from them but we only went when it was warm [ or not freezing]
The eternal issue with kids how much to spend on something they will grow out of

Buy second hand. Sell it on afterwards. It's how we've garbed and kept our one in the outdoors.

Adult bag with a strap around it to limit the length is something I've heard, but never done. I put my kids in cheap decathlon kids bags, and then inside a double adult bag too on cold nights. Lovely and warm, down to about -3

Greg, which mat do you use with the sleeping bag? As I'm looking at the wolverine (with the half sleve) for my 4yo but we have the exped mats that are 65cm wide and I'm not sure if they would fit in the sleeve width wise. I think we have an old 3/4 length thermarest - one of the ultralight ones that came before the Neoair.
