Spirit Cymru - new cycling accommodation network
Just spotted this: https://www.spirit.cymru/
"A new initiative to convert churches that are no longer in use into a network of habitable accommodation that can be connected via cycling between them."
Not a lot of detail yet, but hints that it may rely on sleeping pods in old churches. Could make for an interesting/additional accommodation option. Looks like the pandemic has knocked them back somewhat (originally hoped to have the first tours depart in 2020), but the pilot launch is now estimated for Spring 2022.
Anyone heard/know any more about it?

Could be pretty cool. Hopefully they can make a go of it.

I'm surprised there's many left given the rate they're getting sold off.

Ha! I wonder if this will be the ones that would be too much work to convert?

Sounds interesting, quite fancy that. I bookmarked this 'Champing' site a couple of years ago, England rather than Wales, but never done anything about it:

Am I right to be reading this is a commercial touring venture and the accommodation is available to people booked on their tours? I could be wrong, I don't know.

Not sure. Definitely commercial, hopefully not tied to pre-set tours?

Simple-minded more like

Then again, I think I'm going to retract my booking on our Winter Event and swap to theirs instead!

Perhaps Stu could arrange some sort of exchange visit? They could find out what it's like to sleep in a 'simple' ditch and we could find out.... well...

That looks a good idea, be perfect for a small group meet up (if a little expensive)Blackhound wrote: ↑Mon Nov 01, 2021 4:13 pm Sounds interesting, quite fancy that. I bookmarked this 'Champing' site a couple of years ago, England rather than Wales, but never done anything about it:

Further up this thread from last year, 'champing' got a mention. We watched the 'Inside No 9' Christmas special last night and the set-up was a champing night out. Might have put me off

Such a brilliant TV show, the train one was the first I watched and then when I tuned in next week, was so confused with a different show

Re: Spirit Cymru - new cycling accommodation network
Frog, Eric and meself champed in a disused Berwyns chapel last winter. Lu treated us all to his organ playing skills early next morning. Damn glad I wasn't still asleep or I'd've probably woken up screaming at the ghostly sound.
Please feel free to comment on Lu's rusty old organ, as is usual for This Place.
