But all that was lost in the unrelenting misery that was Madonna and Kylie c***ing minogue. This drove many of us into the realms of metal which at the time was seen as being somewhat risque....

I went and bought it that weekend (on cassette) and loved and listened to it till the tape stretched and sounded awful. I watched them on TV at Glastonbury the other year, was I disappointed, they seemed to have resorted to the typical heavy metal/rock posturing that they used to say they hated.

On a Friday, when not at school, my Mum would take to me to the Record shop, Europa Music in Alloa, to buy a single. We'd look at the charts and pick one to buy. I'd go along with what she wanted, of course, until I asked for Golden Brown by The Stranglers. Still one of the most vaguely exciting songs ever.

The Metallica discussions a couple of posts ago connects nicely with a documentary I found on Netflix https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6997426/ and watched recently. The place they restored for the 50th anniversary of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly is visited by the Spanish Divide route. A chunk of the restoration cost was donated by James Hetfield and an early and unique crowd funding campaign. It's a good watch.
