Racing in the dunes this weekend. Early finish to child herd gave me some time to point a camera while child played in the sand.

Looks like that thing in fairgrounds where you squirt coloured paints onto a bit of paper on a spinny-round wheel thingy. Fairground dude switches it on, wheel spins, paint spreads out into nice random pattern, bloke puts it in a little cardboard frame for you. I used to like doing those as a kid at Skegness. Well I'm easily pleased.

I've never seen an attraction like that at a fairground, how long ago was this? Maybe it stopped being popular at the same time as bear baiting and bearded ladiesRIP wrote: ↑Thu Nov 24, 2022 7:40 pm Looks like that thing in fairgrounds where you squirt coloured paints onto a bit of paper on a spinny-round wheel thingy. Hah!
I think it would be around 1966/67. My grandparents went slightly further up the social scale (very easy when you're at the bottom anyway) after that to site their little caravan - Mablethorpe. Come to think of it the fairground there also had the same 'attraction'. I guess the profit margin must have been huge. Bit of paper, a few pots of paint, and the aforementioned spinny wheel thingy. Ah, those halcyon and carefree days of childhood.

That is, indeed, a charming name for a caravan.

May you always have tail wind.

Re: Photos you have taken in the last month of which you like.
I know that these photos should be posted with minimal comment but I've just bought a "proper" compact, a Panasonic LX15 which has a 1" sensor whatever that means. It's possible to shoot with aperture priority and adjust the depth of field accordingly. I want to try taking decent photos not just by accident so would appreciate some tips. This was taken on my morning dog walk and I'm quite happy that the subject draws the eye with the rest out of focus.
