Pubs off tarmac
I realise some don't like pubs or drink alcohol, but these often provide much needed respite for many
Rules are, pubs that can only can be accessed by unmetalled roads or tracks, and you need to have been and supported it by buying something
To set you off, something quite close to "civilization"

The only place you can drink "bumpy road"

Re: Pubs off tarmac
I'm being a bit thick here as usual, so those are the Rules but what's the Game? Presumably it's a theme for a ride, like my Tragical Mystery Tour? Good idea if so, might try it.

Re: Pubs off tarmac
I can think of plenty that can be reached 'off-road' but I'll admit, I'm struggling to think of any that can only be reached that way ... I shall keep thinking.

Re: Pubs off tarmac
What about the Ty Coch Inn at Porthdinllaen? I think there is a tarmac road to it/the beach, but it's a private road. I walked along the beach but I guess you could ride on the beach too. Utterly fantastic views from there too, and saw a few seals hauled out on the rocks just round the corner, and sand martins nesting in a nearby low cliff.
EDIT - on Reg's list, it's on lots of lists...

Re: Pubs off tarmac
It's a way of coming up with interesting places to travel through and a bit of a hark back to when there some really isolated pubs like the infamous Moorcock Inn on Rooley Moor Road

Checks map, looks at UK, rechecks map, errr slightly tighter rulesand presumably any pub on an island?
Some of the pubs in the link are not quite what I was thinking as the access isn't an unmetalled road (private tarmac doesn't count), others look like great targets for future rides

Re: Pubs off tarmac
There's one on an island off South Walney (Barrow-way, Cumbria). Would that count?

Re: Pubs off tarmac
That's Piel Island - they were advertising for a new landlord the other month.
There's the floating pub, The Eagle Barge, on the Caledonian canal at Laggan Locks, definitely no tarmac leading to that one.

The Old Forge, Inverie, Knoydart.
Re: Pubs off tarmac
If we’re playing that type of game I’ll raise you a nightclub in Bristol harbour called the Thekla.whitestone wrote: ↑Wed Jul 27, 2022 12:14 pm There's the floating pub, The Eagle Barge, on the Caledonian canal at Laggan Locks, definitely no tarmac leading to that one.
There’s quite a few drinking establishments in the harbour though.
Re: Pubs off tarmac
The easiest way to reach Beese's I'm Brislington (Bristol) is via boat. There apparently is a road that connects to its track, but I've only ever taken the "ferry" (row boat) over from the other side of the river (canal maybe, not sure).
Re: Pubs off tarmac
Couple down my way that almost meet the criteria.
#1 The Boat Inn at Penallt, riverside pub that does have tarmac lane access although most people access it by foot from its car park which is by way of an old railway bridge over the River Wye. Fun to ride over the bridge
#2 The Rising Sun at Moseley Green, a pub surrounded by forestry with access up a track from the nearest road (although the track has been tarmac'd at various times in the past). Can be accessed by bike along rooty singletrack from several directions
Both the above have been visited by Reg and Raggedstone from this here parish

We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.
Re: Pubs off tarmac
The Turf Hotel on the Exe Estuary trail is only accessible by bike, boat or foot. Waterside camping in the garden too.
The Black Lion at Consall in the Churnet Valley, Staffs, is sort of accessible by road, then walking across a canal bridge, but much more accessible via the canal towpath.

Re: Pubs off tarmac
Around your way and well worth a visit Jack (but does have tarmac access) is the Priory at Llanthony. Also has a basic camping field (£4 / person).

Re: Pubs off tarmac
I'll get in before Scotroutes and say the pub/restaurant at Corrour station. It's lovely too.
They've got an Airbnb they run in the old station building that's worth a visit. Need to get the train in obviously!

Re: Pubs off tarmac
If there isn't a metalled road giving access as well then yes they qualifyIf canal towpaths count then there’s loads around here
Re: Pubs off tarmac
How about the Pilchard Inn on Burgh Island?
Re: Pubs off tarmac
The Turks Head St. Agnes Scilly.

Only reachable by track or sea (nice pub as well

Re: Pubs off tarmac
Corrour Station House (technically a restaurant) but serves beer is accessible by train, bike or foot only. Does that count?
