It depends where on the TT you're planning to put the bottle and how much standover height you have when the cage is fitted. A magnetic attachment/ bottle setup such as Fidlock avoids disembowelment in the event of unscheduled get-offs and is my preferred option. Rather more spendy though.

I've used one of these for extra bottle capacity on conventional steel tube frames. However, judging by your name you might have too fat tubes too!

The down tube on my bike is quite fat and they fit on there:slugwash wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 1:41 pm I've used one of these for extra bottle capacity on conventional steel tube frames. However, judging by your name you might have too fat tubes too!

I use a monkey cage on the top tube of my bikes, never had a bottle go astray yet. Purchased from a place not far from here.

Ha slugwash,
Perhaps I need a rename. Still got the fatty but this for a solaris, and trying to avoid the thought of loading up the forks.
Cheers all.

I mounted mine forward on the seatpost, using a little thingamajig that I'd have to go search for

Re: Bottle cages on the top tube.
Had a play today. Top tube is using a decathlon thingy, as mentioned above.
Not ridden it like this yet, other than down the lane, but standover is fine.

Re: Bottle cages on the top tube.
I have a bottle on the top tube of both my bikes, just in front of the seat post. I use a Monky cage too on my full sus. Works fine, but I did snap one tightening it right up. Helps if you wrap an inner tube under it to make it grip a bit better.
Had bottle bosses added to the top tube of my hard tail.
One thing to watch out for is that I find on really rough decents, I've occasionally lost the bottle. I guess it's because the top tube is more horizontal, so they ping out easily. I now have a bit of elastic and an accessory clip that I snap round the lid of my bottle to stop it shooting forward now. Not lost one even on the most rocky descents imaginable.
I've never had a stand over issue. I've 35" legs which probably helps, but I find if I suddenly fall off the saddle, I tend to naturally end up in front of the bottle.
