A Desert, an Oasis and a Starlit Night

Post by Farawayvisions »

Hi everyone :D

I'm new, but I'm actually Mrs MPolo so have made a wee post once. First of all, I want to thank the Bear Bones team for the great kit we purchased and the effort (way beyond the average bear) made to ensure we got replacement kit in record speed when our poles got lost in the post. The good news is that they did arrive eventually so the extra set will be returned in the next day or so.

We went on our first ever bikepacking and wildcamping trip to Morocco and here's what we did on Christmas Eve. http://www.farawayvisions.com/endless-d ... lit-night/

Said it before and I'll say it again, I'd love to cycle in Morocco. One day hopefully.

Ray
MPolo and myself were just looking through the bank statements to see what the trip cost us. And all in all including scheduled flights with BA (Business Class on the homeward leg) from Heathrow T5 to Agadir, all our accomodation and food and a wee bit of shopping, the parking and hotel at Heathrow, bus fares and the odd taxi, it cost about 1600 pounds for both of us. Accommodation ranged from a night in a palace, a place I would only describe as a brothel, basic rooms, under the stars and some pleasant middling places too.
Maybe this will make it all more possible for you?
I hope you get the chance to ride in Morocco, the people are wonderful. :)

Morocco is a great place to go bikepacking lots of places to camp, we felt safe all the time in fact safer than the UK, the Moroccans are friendly and hospitable, everyone you pass out of town says hello or waves. They may not know how far or the way to the next village but they are helpful, maps are not always accurate nor is the map on the GPS.
The weather was great for the trip reasonable temperature during the day 20 - 28 degrees dropping to 6-10 degrees at night but down to 0 degrees at 2000m altitude during the night but dry.
