it's all v random. Mine is still being made. Missus and kids thought I'm obviously wasting their time building it up so have had to come for a walk in the Peaks with em...

Just about managed to finish mine. The disc rotors are a bit mismatched and the saddle is painful if a DH is misjudged. Tires being Rocket Rons all round and skewers, the next best thing after XTR.. Dura Ace Hope they can hack it.

Poor bike, it'll be his first outing to Wales. Doesnt realise what he's let himself into. Oh, the bottom bracket creak Luke had to put up with down in the South West, hopefully I've sorted it. Bags to pack and go on and...

Shaf - I'm wondering about the red tape and white tape on your spokes - are you trying to replicate a motorbike noise or just drown out the bottom bracket?
Or is it so you don't get front and rear wheels confused?

soz about that. Needs pulling off. Them spokes are the lightest that Sapim do and not recommended for mtb use. They twist easily so needed to add some reference points for when the build was taking place (to ensure spoke twist was accounted for*).

*I know you know that but for benefit of anyone that wouldn't get it without complete info

Dragging out the old steel gate again
This is based on the current forecast and temps. I'm going with a variation of my YD300 bivvy (added my quilt) which will rely on finding a suitable tree to hide under if its damp but may chuck the tarp in if its going to be very wet. Frame bag currently emptyish but will be stuffed full of food and drink come the day. Still ruminating on lights but thinking probably the 'sposure race rather than the maxx d (aka tin of beans). Feeling cautiously optimistic

Last minute technical problems have forced a switch to the Fargo but maybe course and weather this year mean it’s a good swap from a Krampus.

Rohloff running gear. Schwalbe 2.35/2.25 Nobby Nics.
Red Shift cockpit and USE suspension post for comfort.

I will be using a Sawyer filter bottle so I can just fill and go from any stream. I used on the Dartmoor 200 for the first time. It’s a fair bit harder to drink from than a standard bottle but it more than makes up for that in convenience.

Bivi gear is the minimum according to the rules.
Rab survival bivi and blizzard pack sleeping bag.

Any weight saving in sleeping gear is more than made up for in an oversized first aid kit which my training and conscience never lets me leave at home.

This year I’m opting for light weight waterproofs rather than Paramo (though I’ll have it in Wales in case things change).

Required survival kit and my camp kit in the seatpack. Puncture kit in the gerrycan. Lots of food (about 6000 cals) in front bags. Water, electronics, gloves, waterproof jacket in backpack. And possibly cold pizza.

It was blessed relief when my chain snapped and I had to bail out on the road back to Llanbrynmair. DaveB went back over the mountain road in the hurricane cos he's double 'ard.
