Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
In a break with tradition, I'm actually posting a cheery Friday post on a Friday .... project Death Trap is on the back-burner until I receive my newly reground crank and cams but as (a) I've never actually seen it in daylight and (b) it's sunny, I thought I'd drag it from the workshop and have a look. Now, I'm generally never entirely happy with anything and there'll always be something I think could be re-made or re-done better and this is perhaps no exception but all in all, I'm reasonably happy with how the thing looks ... sadly, the picture doesn't do the sparkly paint justice. There's so little of it, that it's hard to see where all the work is but I suppose the work's in making it as minimal as possible while still functioning.

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
What does give me CF feelings and a little inward giggle is picturing the conversations I will invariably be having over the coming days/ week, when people are going to ask me if I've got anything nice planned for the weekend, or When's your next adventure?
And I'm going to have to somehow say to them that I'm going away for the weekend with a dozen or so blokes I've never met before (who call themselves Boners) - but it's ok, I know them from the internet

So you're expecting a dirty weekend!

(Explain that to your mum

Oh why do I suddenly I think of Benidorms' Donald & Jacqueline , 'Oh, Yes!'

I think I need a cold shower to clear my mind.

I hope you think you know, what I might of exactly meant.

Indeed - just putting a few last bits int' van and then I shall be heading south to the seaside. Today's activities include packrafting, cave exploration and Greggs and tomorrow I shall be cycling very slowly and thinking of excuses why

Dan yr Ogof?
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
While awaiting this week's Death Trap update I've just been out to water my little babies at the bottom of the garden. This year's brood of oak saplings. Collected acorns last Autumn from various places. Sprouted 'em over the winter. Planted ten out in pots in February. This is them after only 5 months. As with all families every one is quite different. Only lost one which is good going (the pot at the front). One holly on the right, to confuse the oaks. Amazing really, the power of things wanting to be alive. Next winter I'll plant them out down by the river with their relatives from previous years. Every year for about the past six years I've sprouted ten or so acorns and planted out the ones from the year before. Quite a little mini-forest on the go now, obviously with six different heights.

Maybe interestingly, or not, the sleeping bag I use to this day was purchased back in the mid 90s, specifically as there was to be an overnight Dan Yr Ogof trip. It never happened - but I love the sleeping bag :)

You could always do a DYO overnight in the intended bag 30 years late
