Re: The thread for everyone building a cross/gravel/monsterc
Just building a bike for the two tonnes and other events next year.
frame / forks: dirty disco (direct from aliexpress
)
hubs: SP dynamo front / dt swiss 240s rear (ebay / STW)
rims: 50mm carbon clinchers (again direct from aliexpress
)
cranks: sram apex compact (from Charlie the bike monger)
running gear: Shimano 105 (ebay)
bars: midge (on-one)
stem / post: Thomson (STW / ebay)
brakes: BB7 SL's.
With a bit of jiggery pokery it should come out sub 19lbs and sub C2W costs.
Frame should be in in a few weeks so will post up once complete!

At 22lb mine's far lighter than ANY mountain bike I've EVER ownedMy cross bike is considerably heavier than my mountain bike at the moment!!

May the bridges you burn light your way
Re: The thread for everyone building a cross/gravel/monsterc
The Straggler is like a lead weight... I dont know how much it weighs but it feels considerably more than my mtb.
Granted, the mtb is currently singlespeed and comes in at about 22lbs

Re: The thread for everyone building a cross/gravel/monsterc

Base bike blagged - this is stock but not for long.
XT 2010 29er wheelset w/19mm UST rims in storage waiting for the right bike. Hydro Tektro Hylex brakes need fiddling but feel really good. 1x10 with bar-end shifter - may get a clutch RD and mess with the gearing and I have an SLX chainset to go on it. Just need some good all-round UST tyres - and WTB have just released info on 40C TLR Nanoraptors : )
I have an Alpkit 'daisychain' 1/4 frame bag that fits it perfectly. Been meaning to do a local 'double' for a while and this may be the bike for it.

Re: The thread for everyone building a cross/gravel/monsterc
I thought i would join in. I built this at the weekend. Apologies in advance for the misaligned cranks, wheels, valves, logos, wood panels on shed door, mismatched colour of spacers, extra long cables and the weeds etc
It is quick and not too bad off road.

Looks good Mike, I see you built the uncle John in the end
Re: The thread for everyone building a cross/gravel/monsterc
apologies if for dragging this thread up from the dead, but I am plagued with thoughts of monstercrossers..
who's got one, can I see pics of it?
looking for inspiration to put a very budget, very slow singlespeed build together over the next year or so..

Re: The thread for everyone building a cross/gravel/monsterc
Blimey what an old thread the bike I was building is long gone and was replaced by a CDF (which was a tank) that was then promptly replaced by a Ritchey Swiss Cross disc running 40mm Nanos (just) which is the best CX bike I've ever owned.
I did Monstercross my 67.5er Inbred for a year but it's back to risers now, can't manage a pic from here

Seeing as this threads back.... not "monstercross" but a "gravel" build....
Ridgeback Ramble built up as above. The idea being as cheap as possible but sill look "nice".... Titanium seat post was in the parts bin and the only "bling" on it.
It rides wonderfully. I love it.

16" (I think) Haro Mary SS frame, Kona Project 2 forks, 2.1 WTB Rajin tyres, Woodchippers on a 35 degree stem ... rides really well. The Haro looks fantastic..please tell me more
Here's another pic - Carbon Bonty forks and Mud-X tyres this time. Look like WTB Dirt Drop bars on there too.

Re: The thread for everyone building a cross/gravel/monsterc
Ive got a maxi monster or mega monster using a ritchey commando with alpkit bomber bars and a ss set up 30:18, its great fun for a mixed or different ride.
Re: The thread for everyone building a cross/gravel/monsterc
Being the cynical ba$tard that I (often) am thought a gravel was merely marketing boll0cks to sell us more bikes (bit like 650B)
However, bought a Spesh Sequoia Elite, was so impressed with that bought a Pro module to build for "Wales /Norway /New Zealand" riding.
Basically mountain bike gearing with road shifters

Re: The thread for everyone building a cross/gravel/monsterc
Can't remember if I posted this, but the noddy yellow rigid forks have now been replaced with sus forks. Genetic digest bars, trp spyres. Its a 2014 Charge cooker 3.
Got my exercise ban just after I'd bought the forks
Still 4.5 weeks until my heart scan
