Using my light battery to provide a usb output

Hi, 1st post and I'm wanting some help!

I'm not finding any success searching the forum for this but that maybe my search terms.

Does anyone have or know where I can get an adaptor or what search term to use in google to enable me to use my MTB light battery (a separate battery not built into the light) to get a USB o/p to charge phone etc, saves carrying a power bank.

What voltage is the battery? More than 5v and you'll need someway of regulating the charging output.

It's 8.4vdc so expecting or imagining that whatever adaptor will be able to regulate that to 5vdc.

I'm sure I've seen something in the dim and distant past, but didn't buy it or book mark it

Welcome Rich. I did this many years back with a first issue Lupine Pika remote battery to recharge my Blackberry (remember them? Yes, it was a while back, 2002 if I recall as I was off on tour of Cornwall and simply could not live without work email .... ). There was a tiny electronics place near mine and the bloke made me an adapter out of lekky tape and luck. If you can't find anything online, there is sure to be someone nearby you who could knock out something bespoke for a few quid.

Depends on the pack. If it's a pack that holds 4 18650 batteries in a 2s2p set up you can get a new battery box with a split cable, one with a female USB cable and the other for your light

something like this would work- would need to sort out an adapter for the postive negative but should be easy enough
I assume you can get one without the display whch you dontreally need.

I use one of these with my lupine light battery.

Lupine use a standard connector, so an adapter cable could be made as required.

I use magicshine lights, the have a USB out put built in.
I did see you say what light you currently have. A cheapo car cig lighter ub charger thingy may work..

After a bit of searching I found a small DC-DC convertor with a dual USB outlet that looks like it'll do the job, load testing so far has not shown any real problems charging Wahoo Bolt but it's significantly warmer charging a smartphone but nothing alarming.

great work, it the heat shrink is adhesive line then it should be Water resistant/shower proof.

I have the opposite problem my light has died (an short battěy output) and the battery is only good as, a power bank, having a USB out put.. hey ho.
magic shine sold off in sale by planetx, i now know why. I've fixed it twice. vales a sealed unit and a third time will be a goner spare too pricey so may invest in a better brand..
