Oops, looks like Josh went down that little dead-end track at the end of the loch on the Ledmore traverse.

Despite knowing it's there, I think i've made that same mistake every single time.

Josh Ibbett only 1.2mi behind Liam Glen (SS don't forget), and about to hit the road section. Going to be some furious pedalling!
Re: HT550 2021
Imagine sitting in the Oykel Bridge Hotel and having the leaders arrive, 100 miles ahead on the second evening

Re: HT550 2021
Might explain why he's actually pulling away then (assuming it's not just the delay between SPOT updates making it look like that, which it easily could be).Richpips wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 9:50 pmNot a flat road and into the wind.thenorthwind wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 9:13 pm Josh Ibbett only 1.2mi behind Liam Glen (SS don't forget), and about to hit the road section. Re: HT550 2021
Liam will be 5 or 6 miles ahead by the time Josh hits tarmac.
Just found the weather overlay feature
Looks like the rain hasn't quite arrived yet.

Re: HT550 2021
That 1 mile difference on the hike-a-bike section could be around 30-45 minutes of time difference. That'll translate to 5-7 miles when they hit the road.thenorthwind wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 9:54 pm Might explain why he's actually pulling away then (assuming it's not just the delay between SPOT updates making it look like that, which it easily could be).

Re: HT550 2021
Makes sense. Last updates I can see are at the same time. Josh's is exactly where the track meets the road. 3.9mi between them.

Re: HT550 2021
Does anyone have any news on Huw Oliver?
Re: HT550 2021
Looks like Martin is camping in the same woods Joe and I slept in at Contin. He would have been better up the road at the forestry MTB centre car park as there's fancy toilets there.
Re: HT550 2021
Good estimate Fraser! That'll translate to 5-7 miles when they hit the road.
The wind has swung around to the west - get the coats on and engage extreme endurance mode......
Looks like Liam will pass Chris J on the two way stretch. Chris rode a pretty good, full Dales Divide the other week, on a gravel bike - a sterling effort. Come on Chris!

It's biblical here in the south of Scotland. I really hope they don't get this weather later on.

We've had it all afternoon in the Lakes. I fear they won't escape. No midges at leastIt's biblical here in the south of Scotland. I really hope they don't get this weather later on.

Re: HT550 2021
Had word off Martin that's he's in a BB in Contin to get warmed up tonight. Apparently his shoulder is giving him jip, don't worry I told him I'd give him more jip if he didn't finish
He reported being snowed on this morning on the corriarick pass.
Keep going Martin

Liam is just about to get to the OBH, 22:30 on Sunday. In 2018 I got there at about 22:40.... on Monday

Grace (not sure exactly who she is to be honest, but the face does ring a bell!) just tweeted about 2 hours ago..

Liam was apparentlly an hour (slightly different courses, granted) faster than the current record...
Right now it appears Josh might well be in the lead (or sleeping as he last pinged about 2 hours previously)...

Re: HT550 2021
Josh finally sleeping? Or is it more tracker blips..?
James H has barely slept either, I think Liam is winning on position and amount of sleep!

Re: HT550 2021
From Josh's history it looks like he bivvied just after Ledmore Junction for about five hours, not surprising since he didn’t stop during the first night. Looks like Liam dossed somewhere in Ullapool for about four hours. I think James Hayden took a short power nap around Contin, there's a big gap of a couple of hours between dots.
Liam’s on or around record pace but the way in and out of Fisherfield are different from 2017. The way in looks as if it will be slower but the way out might be quicker. The old and new routes rejoin at Kinlochewe so we'll know then.
From the rain radar it looks like they are just on the edge of a deluge - it reached Ullapool about an hour ago, those between Bealach Horn and Lochinver are currently dry, everyone else will be getting very, very wet. Hope the burns don't get too high.

Re: HT550 2021
Looks like Josh stopped from about 10.30 till 3ish. A comparatively long stop, and he's lost two places, but got to stop sometime, so we'll see if that pays off.

With old, you mean postie path?whitestone wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 6:47 am The old and new routes rejoin at Kinlochewe so we'll know then.
Since old, as in the first few years also was the single track to Poolewe with the infamous, front wheel eating cow dung bog.
For those eager to compare the times, check TL of 2013 and 2014. Sorry, I'm not bothered enough myself.
Re: HT550 2021
i just find it amazing that these folk can keep going for so long without sleeping or resting. and at such a pace offroad.
just pretty vaguely exciting really.
