And here's another for you.
It might be nowt but a thinly veiled advert but it really doesn't help.

Oooh. I recognise that. Local patch!
The fire and camp are on FE land and totally without permission. Signs of their fire are still there (don't know how long ago they were there although the video has only just gone up) and if they want the tent peg they left in the ground close to the rocks then a friend of mine has it!

We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

It's fascinating. All entirely due to 'image projection'.

Yeah, just let people carry on regardless Tony. Set fire to a forest? Yea f*ck it, not my problem. Wildcamping clampdown? Yea why not, least I had fun setting fire to the forest.
I'd really rather not be the bikepacking police but I don't see too many others stepping forward, so until then .....

This is what happens when a “harmless fire” goes wrong. This was last month and it spread pretty damn quick

Stu, i reckon that they will have probably made and used the fire for marketing bollox, no more. i also reckon they will have put it out. so possibly they were being responsible.
and i dont have a problem with people being responsible. and seeing as there is no evidence they werent i am happy.

It won't take too many more fires on moors before some politician/regulator decides it's a good idea to crack down on camping in the woods. England will be first. Then Wales. The Scots will fight it to the last, probably until the 17th independence referendum finally unties the Union.

Re: And here's another for you.
I was just giving this some thought while making tea and while this perhaps won't make much sense and I might even regret posting it, I'll type it anyway.
Many years ago I had what I'll describe as a battle of conscience. I was taking things and turning them into something with twice the power and therefor much faster than was originally intended. The upshot of that was that on occasion, someone would get seriously injured or killed. It wasn't a direct result of something I'd done but what if I hadn't done it?
It was nearly enough to make me say bollox to it and walk away and 'this' feels similar. I can only keep doing this sh1t if I'm able to do so in a way that encourages people to conduct themselves in a manner that doesn't cause harm, damage or adversely effect others.
Sorry about that but there you go. It is what it is.

I saw recently that wardens and keepers are out at night on quad-bikes in the Peaks and moving wild campers on from popular spots.

Re: And here's another for you.
Clicked on it. Ad popped up for "Manscaped". What's that then? A "beard trimmer" gizmo! Well that was one of the most mistargeted ads I've seen for a long while - beard trimmer for bikepackers? It'll never catch on. One of the tag lines claimed "your balls will thank you" - not the first place I'd considered applying a trimmer to I must admit - which conjures up all sorts of images and confusing conversations too.

And it's very important that you/we keep doing it. Either for altruistic reasons or for self-preservation reasons or both. Right behind you Stu. No that's no good. Right beside you.

Suggesting something hot & spicy to put inside you, followed by something to counteract its effects? Double sale. Cunning.

Stu before I joined this forum I had a nonplussed attitude to fires and was blissfully unaware of the issue of scarring. I’m now a proto-anti-fire fascist. So you’ve changed at least one person for the better. Keep up the good work. Also I know one of the people in that video .. let’s just say “not surprised”

Nice post Dave. Yep, don't get downcast Stu. Educate just two people, they'll educate four, eight, sixteen... job done. It's easy to get affected by one negative vid, but pretty sure they're outnumbered by positive ones. Gotta believe that anyway or one is staring down a deep hole.Dave Barter wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 7:48 pm Stu before I joined this forum I had a nonplussed attitude to fires and was blissfully unaware of the issue of scarring.
