Anyone using the 1:50k TOPO sd cards from the likes of ebay? Are the okay? Look very similar to OS on the pictures.

I bought one [full uk OS}from somewhere years ago- decade- with OS mapping for Garmin
not only does it work fine it fully copyable to other SD cards and i have it saved on my computer

They are identical to the official OS card, just unlocked.
Yes, it's copyright theft and therefore wrong.
No, I don't feel guilty about using one. I also have all the OS paper maps of Scotland and I pay an annual subscription to OS for their service too.

Oh, FWIW, if you copy the hookey one to a USB stick and put it in your PC then you can also use it in Basecamp. Saves having to plug your GPS in.

Bing maps is pretty good. You can switch overlays including 50k and 25k OS as well as satellite image making it pretty good to scroll around UK routes and fathom what they might look like.

Same as Colin, no guilt here.
If you the files on your PC you can also copy them onto Garmins that don't have an SD slot (Edge Explorer), they work and route just fine.
