We didn't get even a single flake

From the trails here I can only assume that it was mud falling out of the sky overnight

A very pleasant snowbimble with Reg through the Chilterns to Mentmore and back.
We pondered whether our first port of call was the origin of a certain Mr Ledburner, of this parish, before wobbling off into Narnia.

Reg excelled himself with a route containing a choice selection of icy, axle-deep puddles and was generous enough to allow me the privilege of forging the way .

We stopped in small tunnel under the railway for a quick hot drink (flask-based; none of that pretentious espresso nonsense today ), then ploughed on to the canal where we stopped to chat to a family building a snowman and a couple of potential 'boners riding off to the local highlands (Dunstable Downs), who were intrigued by the goings-on of This Place .

A pleasant trundle along the canal completed an impromptu and rejuvenating morning. Marvellous .

It was too wet & icy to ride So a family walk through local woods stretched my legs. Very muddy under foot, wearing Jean & approach shoes, lots of slipping but the trail gaiters keep my 'pins' mud free. May be not the most suitable attire. But why make more washing.?

Got out for a couple of hours from the front door. Instead of heading in my usual direction I explored some killer lanes on the skinny bikes. The views were great and I did see a few snowdrops flowered too (sorry no pic). I even had another work call mid ride.

A gloomy ride this morning around the Great Orme from home. The ride was made even more gloomy with the sight of the lifeboat searching for 3 local young lads who have gone missing along with their trawler from Conwy a couple of days ago.

Nothing notable about today's ride, it was just a quick wobble around my local non-technical, pedally circuit except for the fact that it was my first ride on my new 29er fat bike wheels. First impressions were that they roll really well with the WTB Ranger 2.6 tyres on and the tyres gripped better than I expected on the more soggy and muddy bits of trail. I did ride a bit of snow covered forest road as well which highlighted the limitations of the tyres though, my fat wheels would have dealt with it easily but the Rangers were all over the place. Horses for courses though I suppose. Overall I'm very pleased so far.

The front mudguard looks pretty stupid with the (relatively) skinny tyre underneath but it's pretty much vital with a 4.3 Surly Edna trying to throw mud all over me!

In the first picture a was wondering what the ribbed plastic on the front guards was all about. Doh.
It's the drainage pipe on the floor haha.
Cut that in half. Mega flexi guards for moon landers. Tyres...

I spent a sponsor year in high Ed in the late 80s. It was at Doncaster, the campus for accommodation was dead a weekends, but we had to stay & swot. It was 7 miles out of the town. A little village. no facilities, calked Higher Melton. The depressing 'institution' acquired the nameHigher MentalInstitute. Its only saving grace was, an excellent local doing Sunday diners... About a long mile away. Across the woods n field. The Walk, It 'killed' the London lad! He was the spitting image of Max Headroom. Crazy days.

I was once offered extra services in an otherwise empty hotel/pub on a dead Monday evening on the outskirts of Scunthorpe in 1995 but that's a whole other story. Good room rates too as I recall.

Donny wasn't dead, just the college out of town campus, was even the student union bar. Desperate place.

At the start of the course, all lads mainly ex miners or ex forces lads.
Any way Some one commented 'he looked like Max %*# Headoom!'
His reply "how do ya know that was my nickname... ",
his brain catches up.. (oh sub standard), well his fate was sealed.
Good lad, descended from a engineering family Rudge, they made motor bikes he said.

...no.1 was a short, miserable one to the shops in cold rain, but it nonetheless left me feeling smug that I didn't take the car to get supplies for what seems to have become a new guilty pleasure which has replaced my early Saturday morning bike rides: a massive fry up while watching Ru Paul's drag race, with my daughter

Hopefully there will be another one later, no doubt also short, also type two fun in today's weather
