Rear light?

I'm hoping to get some help from you guys, I'm after a decent rear light.
I did have my eye on the Exposure Tracer but the bracket sits loose on the chainstay after visiting my LBS and there's also a risk of it going into the spokes.
Thing is as I use a seatpack there's no way of attaching to the seat post. I have a smaller light on the rear chainstay but it isn't the brightest.

So what do you recommend for attaching to the seatpack (Apidura), chainstays or on my lid?

I use a Blackburn 'Local' on my seatstays Jeff. It's very bright, only has 3 modes and no fiddly buttons - you simply press the entire lens. I've not broken or lost one yet.



I sometimes add a Guee Mini R too as that throws out a pool of light around the bike which tends to give drivers some idea of scale.

Jeff - try the Alpkit Tau https://alpkit.com/products/tau. I just loop the elastic loop a couple of times round the smaller fabric loops you get on luggage.

The other one I use is the FWE https://www.evanscycles.com/brand/fwe/r ... e=93140408 the mount is pretty clever, you can use it to clip it to a loop on a bag or it quarter-locks into place on a mount that can fit a seatpost. By far the best and most versatile I've seen.

After my Aldi sourced-Moon copy (bb200 standard fit one year!) popped off somewhere in Morocco I bought a pair of these from Amazon. They are available under all sorts of brand names but this seems the best value option from a quick glance (1 is £6.99!)

They last ages, not too many modes, easy to switch on and off (no cryptic push combos). The mounts will fit just about anything and the angle can be adjusted.

Exposure have a specific mount for helmets, so that could work and I really rate the light.

Another possible mount option, although only if you have QR wheels is a KCNC threaded fitting that takes the place of the QR end cap that you can mount to.

I've got that Blackburn one and its great (heavy though )
My tracer does go on the chainstay with the aid of a short section of old ESI grip. Cheapo smart ones can be clipped to a strap looped round the seat pack closure straps

Great for a pack strap or seatpost, prob not very good on a seat stay..

Just put my Cateye Wearable X through the washing machine by accident and it still works, which is a pretty good recommendation.

It's great for clipping onto seatpacks as it has a lip that makes it virtually impossible to just fall off. I often clip it upside down to the bottom of a jersey and it's never fallen off.

(I'm tall so have plenty of seatpost under a seatpack for my Tracer main light).

Have a moon copy from AliExpress. It has a built in rubber strap and clip. I just strap it to the back of my helmet.
The rubber covers for switch and charging port fell off so I made new ones out of very sticky tape.

Do you have any M5 mounts on the upper seat stay? I've used a small L bracket to mount a light there. Same bracket type can also fit to the seat clamp via a longer bolt with a few washer-spacers.

I did something similar with a dynamo rear light. Bit of alloy plate drilled and bent to form a 'bridge' between the frame mounts. Very secure it was.

I have a habit of losing lights that are clipped to seatpost bags so I recently got a Cateye Omni 5 which comes with a mount that fits the seat stay nicely - it takes AAA batteries rather than rechargeable so hopefully it'll be a set and forget light for a while.

I’ve a Specialized Stix rear light. They come in a couple of luminosities, mine’s the highest rated.
Very bright. Multiple modes. Lasts an all nighter at least on a usb charge.
Durable- mine’s a few years old now.
The bracket (rubber straps) it comes with works well on seatposts, seat stays and saddle bags. I’ve an additional helmet strap also.

Yep I use Cateye omni 5s, I've got two, one on seatpost, one on seatstay. Solid mounts and batteries last long enough.

I took a seatpost mounting bracket apart and used an old disc brake adapter to mount it inboard of the dropout above the cassette.
I’ll add a pic in a bit - it’s freezing. Outside!

I have put an extra elastic band round to be sure

Nice and bright too

Lasts for ages and detaches very easily for recharging

Sections of chainring get used for front dyno lights and I like re-purposing of bike spares like that, using a brake mount at the back is a new one to me.

Really like that Blue Lug light, was looking for similar for my audax bike as a back up. I mounted a Gaciron round light off the brake / guard bridge for a similar effect. Works really well, good light and it sits nicely between the stays above the brake. It's mounted to a piece of Al sheet cut and bent to suit, drilled for the brake bolt to fix it. Bit of inner tube on the plat to add grip as the light has a clip on the back that sits over the plate (the strap is removable).

I actually went for none of them! I had my eye on Exposure and managed to find the Redeye. Its compact, and has numerous mounting options. It runs off the battery from the MaxxD at the front too and is super bright!
