Any winter under-helmet hat deals spotted?
List my winter hat. Perfect timing as it's just turned winter. Had it the rest of the year and did attempt to keep carefully in the socks drawer!
Anyone seen anything decent in the uk shops that might deliver quick and not the Crikey, how much pricey. I have a cold head so the list one was with ear coverings in merino and 'summat' lining.
Thanks in advance..

TBH Shaf I just use a buff. I'm not exactly well blessed up top
so do feel it on chill damp descents. A buff has the advantage that it's got two ends so if you get a bit sweaty at one end you just turn it round
The other thing I'll use when it's not quite so chilly is a cyclist's peaked cap.
I've seen "skull caps" (not the Jewish kippah/yarmulke!) worn by others but dunno where they got them from.

I use a gore windstopper one. It's ace, I actually have two as I like them so much, one in black and one in black/yellow

I generally wear mine when it gets into single digits and below

I use a planet x merino one which I've had for years. Annoyingly they don't seem to do them anymore. HH used to do great merino ones but I lost mine prior to getting the PX one..... Sorry Shaf that's of no help whatsoever but if you can source a thin merino beanie that'll do you well.
Re: Any winter under-helmet hat deals spotted?
I got a Castelli helmet liner thing earlier this year and liked it so much I bought a second one (wear one, wash one). I bought it to keep the sweat out of my eyes in summer(this never used to be a problem when I had hair but now I'm baldy it drives me nuts) but I'm still using them now. They do look a bit Ali G when you take your lid off but they're super comfy and also save your helmet pads from getting too rancid. Obviously being Castelli they were relatively expensive (around £20 IIRC) but for me they've been worth it.

The one with the star on the headband? vaguely exciting beanies and best I've ever had (for general use). The alpaca or rabbit fur ones (with the WC colored bands) were also pretty darn good. If you want thin stuff to go under a helmet then suggest you look for a running beanie (tend to be a bit thinner as you're usually kicking off more heat whilst running). Last year's Ron Hill models tend to be heavily reduced. IME Sportshoes.com are a good source of online gear and usually lots of stuff on sale. Leeds / Bradford way if that matters to you (not that you can visit, it's online only), IIRC
Smarwool make very nice ones but usually a bit pricey.
EDIT - here you go Shaf, shirley something to suit sir:

I’ve used an older version of this for years now and have been impressed with it

Re: Any winter under-helmet hat deals spotted?
Thanks for the replies. I usually use a thick winter/merino one with a buff for the face to survive the cold (I'm pakistani blooded... we get cold easily in there here winters.. I think... or I'm just super soft). Hence whatever I got it would need to be something that has proper thermal properties and it'd be used with the buff.
Endura do one but it's 38 quid. The Crikey, how much one was £50ish (I obviously wouldn't have paid that price.. or would I... can't remember. But its lost now so bad economy)...

Mike Ashley doesn't just own Sports Direct, he owns all sorts of businesses, quite a few that people don't realise he owns, and probably soon to be a whole lot more!

Just generally seems like a bit of a wrong un, so much as I'd be in a position to know. It has led to the slightly surreal sight of house of Fraser selling Muddy Fox bikes

I see that, and there is the whole Newcastle FC issue, but my question is really, where do you do your shopping that is completely ethical, not at all controversial, green etc etc? I don't reckon anywhere is are they?Cheeky Monkey wrote: ↑Tue Dec 08, 2020 6:59 pmJust generally seems like a bit of a wrong un, so much as I'd be in a position to know. Shaf I got a endura wind something or other the other week . But it gets toasty under it , think it was about £18 ., prefer the cheapo px ones to be fair as that tend to regulate a bit better , material was a bit like the hh lifa base layers not sure if they still do them though

Ordered myself this beauty in black from £35 from Tredz. Might even make me go faster like their - Sportful - gear does for the nice man called Kristoff Alleagart...middleagedmadness wrote: ↑Wed Dec 09, 2020 9:32 am Shaf I got a endura wind something or other the other week . Re: Any winter under-helmet hat deals spotted?
Nice but pricey plus I don’t think my ears would fit under it

Re: Any winter under-helmet hat deals spotted?
These apparently fit under your helmet - price alert
https://veracycling.fr/index.php/casque ... ling-caps/
but that's the French for you.
I wear what I believe is called a beanie that came attached to the cover of an MTB magazine thirty years ago.
For cold/not so cold days an equally old NF headband that covers my ears.
If I was buying today probably one of these

Re: Any winter under-helmet hat deals spotted?
Similar to above, i have one of these Madison ones, good coverage, but not too thick, so can regulate heat pretty well:
