I have a funny story about a copy of Razzle!

When I was a Community Psychiatric Nurse I had a brand new student nurse allocated to me. She was so young and had just been through the initial college phase. Her whole cohort had been told to go and have a 4 week placement, and get as much experience as possible. Well, we all have to give a lot of injections, and as the placement went on it was clear that none of her colleagues were being given the chance and were being asked to just watch, personally I am a believer in learning practical tasks is best done by doing them.
I had a patient who believed that when he lived abroad a small crab crawled inside his penis, and was constantly laying eggs, so he spent a lot of time, er, getting rid of the eggs that may have been laid. Maybe 8 or 9 times a day
It was his depot time, so I took "Emma" along and asked her if she wanted to do it. She was keen, so I discussed it with the patient, who was ok with it.
I tasked her to find a flat surface and prepare the injection, which I would check and ensure it was all ok. I then spoke to the patient, and noticed a bit of faffing and then an "oh my god" coming from "Emma". I asked her if all was ok and she said in college they had been told that injections should be prepared in a clean, preferably sterile, area, and that this was vital, but it was ok she was on it.
She administered the depot really well, and was very calm.
We went for a coffee after the call and I asked her what the problem was while she was drawing the depot up. She told me that the only flat surface she could find was on the tv, which had an open copy of Razzle on it. She put all the gubbins on the magazine and drew up the injection with a naked centrefold winking up at her. The 'oh my god' was when she picked up the tray to bring the injection over, and found it was stuck to the magazine
She then wrote an absolutely fabulous reflection for her portfolio about the difference between a uni setting to be shown something, and what we were actually dealing with in real life in community homes. She was also the only student who went back having done an injection to a real person and was absolutely buzzing, her confidence went through the roof!

By some bizarre coincidence they were the first three types of car that I had after I passed my test years and years ago.

Yeah, sucker for some print, let's give it a go. Peaks edition too, lovely.

My copy of said zine has just arrived (along with a 1989 edition of OL1 (Dark Peak), and a hub from Shaf...).
First impressions are rather favourable, there are even some little homages to cut+paste zines (as were still knocking about when I got into punk gigs...). At times it veers uncomfortably close to being a little too polished, and I'm afraid I can't agree with the snack review, but I'm already looking forward to issue 2.

When we moved house I found the one and only issue of the zine I put together in 1985. The only non-cringe bit was the porn crossword of which I’m quite proud.
