Glue - alternative to needle and thread

I hate and can't sew. Glue technology has moved on so much over the last 15 years that the adhesive is often stronger than the material it is sticking, however I have yet to find a glue that reliably sticks fabric and waterproof materials. I need to stick some patches on a canvas boat cover and my pop top; velcro on some pogies, handlebars and gaiters; and repair some waterproof trousers.

Any suggestions?

Shoe Goo is a pretty good for canvas etc

Silicone sealer will readily stick most materials but the strength of the bond will depend on the materials.

Depends on the loads involved and the direction that they are applied.
If I remember correctly, the skin on some aircraft wings is glued on, but is still riveted, to prevent peeling.

In some applications, I can see stitching playing the same role as the rivets.

Make sure you toughen the surface slightly & de-grease it with meths/ alcohol wipe on it etc. This ensures the best bond. I use Henkel Extreme adhesive {yellow & black tube) . Vinyl adhesive may work best in TPU material.
*Mcnett tenious repair do patch tape, Which seem to get positive reviews but I have not used. I presume you have used Duct/gaffer tape.

It might be worth a punt..

* Always test on a sample or corner where it doesn't matter.

** the best adhesive is the one wher you can't get the top off next time.

*** Regardless how you prepare it, glue (like paint), will always bond best where it is not wanted, such accidently dripped onto the most obvious & expensive item, inaccordance with sod law.
