January's Virtual Winter Event 2021 (Covid lockdown edition) Jan 9th and 10th
ENTRIES CLOSE 8pm ON SATURDAY 12TH DECEMBER
As the 2 day and 1 night out under canvas or bothy Winter Event 2021 has understandably being cancelled, and following on from last summers WRT cancellation and postponement, this won't stop those of us dumb enough to camp out in January will it?
Last May a few of us got together last minute (virtually) and gave each other 10 (or so) grid refs around each others homes.
The idea was simple, use the relevant OS map or http://www.geograph.org.uk/ picking out 10 grid refs around your virtual partner's home.
Here are our stories from last May's 2 night 3 day Virtual WRT: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=17048
So, here you go for January's 9th and 10th Virtual Winter Event 2021:
Reg (RIP) and I will work together to put this all in place and camping out on the Saturday night can be done in your own back garden or out and about where it's legal and allowed.
Entries close at 8pm on Saturday 12th December, straight after the 8pm cut off time Reg and I will use a very complicated algorithm to pair up riders to work out each others grid refs, you then have a week to contact each other and swap those grid refs before Christmas Eve. Make sure none of them are on private land.
Over Christmas you plot your own routes around your own areas. Camping in your garden is allowed and encouraged in this trying times.
Learn your local area again though new eye.s routes and new places.
Then after your ride report back with stories and photos (if you like) in the "How it Went" thread that we will make ready before the event weekend.
In the spirit of the Winter Event you don't need to go to all, or indeed any of your Grid Refs. Just use your imagination and have fun.
On the V-WRT Reg gave me a GR in the sea as is traditional that I could only get to at low tide, but it might be a bit cold for that in January!
The cost is free to enter, but there is no obligation charity element to it for 2 homeless charities while knowing that Stuart the high lord of Bike Packing will be out in the Welsh Hills suffering when you're out on your bike too.
So, if you want to play out please add......

Do you want someone each to do different grid refs or the same grid refs to ride together please?

Be highly amusing if our Extremely Complex Algorithm paired "Cath" n "Bob" up to sort each other's GRs outJohnClimber wrote: ↑Mon Nov 02, 2020 8:54 pmDo you want someone each to do different grid refs or the same grid refs to ride together please?
