Jocks road and open shelters
Theres a piece in the guardian today about Jocks road - https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2020 ... an-scenery
It includes an interesting link to the refurb of Davie's Bourach. I stopped there once - briefly - but it looks a good spot now that the the walking club have put that sterling effort in.
This got me wondering The MBA have posted a covid update on the 26th sept and its clear about bothies being closed, but are any other shelters still open for use in Scotland like this and Larachintavore in Fisherfield? Not advocating their use - just curious.

Re: Jocks road and open shelters
In many places the landowners have padlocked them, the MBA hasn't done this in case they are needed in an emergency. I read the Guardian piece too and it seems to have been written a while ago. A pity the Guardian didn't point this out.

Yes, its almost inferring business as usual...

It looks as though we might be heading into a circuit breaker lockdown so the last thing we need is encouragement for folk to come up here on their jollies.

Maybe I should stay at home and read the authors book The Unremembered places - looks good
Re: Jocks road and open shelters
Yeah I liked the look of the book too.

Yes I have no intention of going to England or Wales just now. If we all stay in our home nation for the moment that would seem wise. There are plenty of places to go within those constraints after all.

Cheers for sharing that.
I’ve met a few of the old codgers in the linked blog too.

Its a bit poky to be honest. Like the Fords of Avon refuge its technically meant for emergencies only and if you saw inside you'd probably only want to bivvy there in an emergency....
Good trail from Glen Doll to it though, less so beyond....
