Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
So, I have managed to crack the rear wheel on my Surly ECR, therefore I am looking for suggestions for bombproof replacement 29+ wheels. The Hope fortus 35mm has caught my eye, however are there any other strong 35mm - 50mm wheels worth considering?

Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
Had no issues strength wise with duallys, WTB scrapers and Raceface arcs.
Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
May be of interest but I'm away to put a pair of Sun ringle boost stache wheels up for sale?

Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
Is 35mm even considered + these days???
My regular bouncy bike has Fortus 30mm rims
Anyway, I've got a pair of 52mm Stans 'Hugo's and they've been bombproof for about 5 years (and I'm massive and ride in the Alps).

Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
I have a set of Easton, now RaceFace Arc's.
Very happy with them.
Come in var. widths.
Strong and stiff (for an alloy rim, 32 h, double butted DT spokes) yet not too heavy.
Only with Vittoria Mezcals the fit is rather loose, but many other tyres go tubeless real easy.

Another shout for Dually. Got a pair that are about 5 years old and have taken an absolute hammering.

Are you running duallys tubes or tubeless?

Halo vapour 35 rims are a great option(2.6-2.8), they do a 50mm version too (3.0+).
They are well priced and not too heavy

Thanks Andy. What tyre are you running? I tried to get a Knard to go up tubeless on a dually and didn't even get close...

Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
Off the top of my head I've had Dirt Wizard, Nobby Nic, Ikon and Chronicles on them.
I've got a 650b+ Dually that has had a few different tyres on too.
Can't remember them being any harder to get the tyres on than any other rim tbh, although thinking about it Keep Pedalling put the Dirt Wizard on when they built them, and the Chronicles were second hand off here so would probably have been an easier fit.

It will so full of blasphemy that typing it up will mostly consist of wingdings and %£!*&$^ symbolsIn Reverse wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 2:36 pm Document your experience for our entertainment please Ben.![]()

Don't have a compressor, just a charger style pump, so every time it doesn't work I have to get in a blooming sweat pumping it up again. The wheel is currently leaning on my work table having been shunned, b@st@rd thing

Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
Update to this - took a Nobby Nic off a Dually on Tuesday night to swap the sealant out (Muc-Off is poor show) and it took me about three hours to get it back onbenp1 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 1:57 pmThanks Andy. Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
Have you got an air shot type thing? I made one from a pop bottle. Bloody brilliant! In Reverse wrote: ↑Thu Sep 24, 2020 4:47 pmUpdate to this - took a Nobby Nic off a Dually on Tuesday night to swap the sealant out (Muc-Off is poor show) and it took me about three hours to get it back onbenp1 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 07, 2020 1:57 pmThanks Andy. Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
I've got an actual Airshot Andy.
Someone (Bob?) said in the other thread that tubless is either a doddle or an absolute c***. This was one of the times it was definitely the latter.

the Dually is quite a flat profile and the tyre can sort of just flop about on it instead of seating.

Also sounds like I won't be buying duallys any time soon

Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
Gave up on Duallys because of the tubeless faff. Succeeded but was hard work. Also had burping issues (the tyre not me obvs) when cornering hard. Think its because the bead shelf isnt properly flat. Shame as really strong rim.
Arcs and WTB are superb, See CRC have WTBs for a good price.

Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
Thank you to everyone for the replies. After much faffing, I have went for a pair of WTB i45 tough rims.
Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
Thought I'd close the loop on this. The Knard went up fine on a Dually once I used a compressor, my Topeak Joe Blow Booster pump didn't have enough capacity to seat it

Re: Strong 29+ wheel recommendation
Dually's were too much faff for me and as a pain to get tubeless.
Had Keep Peddling build it back up with Stans Hugo 52 and I've never had a minutes problems with them.
