Okay then, after giving all and every option a good coat of looking at, it's become quite obvious that there was no way to run this year's BB200 in its usual guise and (a) remain within guidelines and (b) show anyone looking that we can actually be sensible. However, that doesn't mean that the BB200 can't run in another guise ....

This year, you will have from Oct 1st until Nov 1st to ride the route. You can also start / finish from any point along it. Should your attempt prove successful, then simply email a gps trace of your ride to claim your badge.

I fully appreciate that it's quite unlike the previous 9 years but under the circumstances it's perhaps a reasonable compromise. The good news is that we'll have an all new route and the crafty will be able to pick whatever weather window may present itself.

Anyway, entries will open on Sep 1st - Sep 25th, route will be sent out Sep 26th and it'll cost you £15. No limit to number of entrants.

Nice! Since there's five weekends (assuming Sunday 1st Nov is valid) then there's a lot of room for folk.

An interesting dilemma: do you put the big hike-a-bike at the start to get it over with or would that demoralise you early on? What about selecting a start point to give you the best chance of hitting resupply points?

Good plan! It’s hard to say no to that. I think the motivation to keep plugging away overnight will be harder to find but a) it’ll be interesting to see and b) it doesn’t really matter.

As we've got 30 days to get round we could go much further than that, BB1000 anyone No need for a separate route, just 5 laps of the BB200.

Still sounds good but having had a night to consider things I am, with some regret, bowing out.
October is likely to be the time where transmission of the C word increases. I’m not sure travel by by train to Wales for recreation would be justified (for me: child at high risk + job in ICU).
I will however honour the spirit of BB200 an roll out on my newly devised hike a bike studded, vague path infested, evil stepping stone infected Dartmoor 200 route. To be completed under BB rules and ridden from my door.

The ride has to be completed in one attempt (as usual). The badge timings will be awarded as previous years and you must complete the route within 36 hours max.

Entry is open from 1st Sept to 25th Sept. All the guidelines of a self-supported event stand. It isn't a social ride with friends so please bear that in mind.

Yes the 300 will exist but only for previous black badge holders. Please enter the 200 and then email Stu will your intent

Thanks Dee... Yeah, I wasnt actually thinking as a group ride sort of thing. Just people starting around a similar weekend/day from wherever on the route they started. ie. If I started at the closest side to myself and a few others started on same date from their end of the route and just followed it round. Only means that you know there's some good company (a few 20 miles ahead or behind) on the same route and they'll be suffering as much or little as I...

Also, once out on the route, if one was to get tired (based on your mention about getting round in one go) then they'd be ok to sit/lie and have a short break/rest right? Or is years going all hardcore and only allowed water/food/etc stops?

Same as every year in that regard Shaf. If you want to stop then stop but it must be completed within 36 hours.

This makes it much more likely that I'll be able to do it... I wonder how much weight I can lose in a month and a half?

Plus, you know, learn to ride a bike again.

Only difficulty for me will be finding somewhere to stay the night before. Not really comfortable with B&Bs etc right now... but by the same token, getting f'all sleep in the car / tent is no way to prep for a ride that long.
