Old Deore 3x9 ... just lovely
I've just transferred a Deore 9 groupo onto new larger frame for my daughter's bike. The whole kit n caboodle from the BB to the V-brakes.
It must be 16 or 17 years old, this kit, maybe older, and used a lot when it was on my ex-missuses bike till she went all roady and I stuck it in a plastic bag covered in oily goodness for easily a decade. Not sure on that. Anyway, it was bloody messy to start with as it was in grime, but by the Gods it went on easy. Such big tolerances with the gears. Brakes so easy to set up ... anyone else remember toeing in? Didn't need it. And aren't the derailleurs made to last?
I do like the 1 x 12 SRAM Eegle on my Big Bro, but it's a temperamental beast for sure.
Again. Just saying. As you were.

Next you'll be saying you put some tubes in, which would of course also be a massive improvement if currently tu£eless

Still running 9 speed on The Mutt (Singular Kite). It's a bastardised mix of XT, SLX, and Sora! Works great!

I've got a Deore 9 speed rear mech... came on my first "proper" hardtail about 12 years ago, second hand, been thrashed around trail centres, and plenty of long tours, and throughout used daily for commuting all year round - it now lives on my dedicated (read: neglected) commuter/pub bike, and live it does. Other mechs on other bikes have come and gone, but this one refuses to die.

Reg thankfully the wheels on this old jalopy are not tubeless and I don't have to bother. I'm still fighting with getting my WTB tyres up tubeless on my WTB wheels with WTB tape and WTB valves .... just arrived is the foam tape Steve recommended so Sunday night is gonna be a bit of a tubeless party thingy.
