A 13L Exped drybag - the sort with three side compression straps and an air value, which means you can really squish things down small and tight. I've used one for a few years for my sleeping stuff and this new one is for my tent. And a Sea To Summit Alphalight long-handled spork to get to the very bottom of pre-packed dehydrated meals.

I have two of these. Work fine. Taken some serious stuffing. But given that they’re made to measure, I wish I'd specified that the zip should be on the other side. Why? Because I’ve found it easier to pack it with the bike on its side (stuff doesn’t fall out before I'm ready). With the zip as is, it means the bike has to lie on the drive side, with the attendant risk of damage.

Some Velo Orange aluminium guards. £70 for a set of mudguards but it's time to spend on the things I value and admit that good guards on my road-audax bike are worth a lot. Time to find out if the advantage of rolled edges really is all it's said to be (rain is channeled all the way to the bottom rather than out the sides). Going to get the cold sweats drilling them for the right fit.

I fitted a set of Velo Orange 63mm Fluted Mudguards to my Arkose last year. They fit 700x44mm byways in. Had to cut a bit off round the front mech.

I bet that was a nerve-wracking modification.. A guy I work with bought the same for his 650B Arkose and I bought these on the strength of his recommendation. Not convinced the 38mm spec they say is OK for up to 30mm tyres is right, my tyres are 29-30mm and the inside width of the guard is 30-31mm, though they have space to sit well clear of the tyre. Should be alright. I've been on plastic guards so long, nice ones made up of sections I get from TW with a tool kit of fitting parts, they've always been fine but the idea of something a bit longer and stiffer appeals. Plus they're way shinier

Post up pics if you can please James, I've heard good things about those mudguards. I'm running SKS guards with my 35/32mm Marathon plus tyres, but they fitted with 40c nanos as well

Two pairs of Alpinestars Drop Pro baggy shorts from Sport Pursuit. I've been wearing Drop jerseys for non-bikepacking mountain biking for a couple of years and they're really excellent so when I needed new shorts to replace my old Royal Racing ones (which have worn out) my first port of call was Astars. These shorts normally retail for £110 a pair and there was no way I was paying that but Sport Pursuit have them half price. I'm happy to report that they're very good in use.

I've a pretty beat up Bel air you could have for the cost of postage. I used to love them, but have gone off it now... I think it would need re-covering

Had a couple of swivels turn up for the van, fitted them earlier. Handy for family picnics and if I had to kip in the van the night before an event

Also had a load of mini bic lighters turn up. I usually dot them around my kit for emergencies but a few have run out of gas, I guess the button was pressed while being stored. Have wrapped some cord around these under the button to hopefully give them a bit more shelf life. They're normally bombproof little things, not being able to light my stove would be a bad news!
