Surf punk you say? I've got two early 60's LP's by the Oz group The Atlantics, and here's the most eccentric track. I wouldn't say it's easy listening but it has a certain charm(?). It was way ahead of its time and many stations refused to play it. It's a sort of 'concept single' before anyone had thought of 'concept albums' (actually I lie, my vote for earliest concept album is Joe Meek's insanely rare 'I Hear A New World' of 1960. The Atlantics are still going, with the addition of the highly skilled Martin Cilia.

I have a few drum & bass releases on 12", mostly early Metalheads stuff, Source Direct, Photek, et al. I also have the Metalheads compilations, including the 5x12" Metalheadz Boxset 1 that came in the metal tin, although the shitty plastic sleeves have clouded the vinyl. Probably play LTJ Bukem more than any other though, Logical Progression, Earth, etc, etc...

You guys might be interested in this if you are into the old stuff.

Doc Scott recently put out this 1994-2001 remasted 31 Records release. Skip straight to "Shadow Boxing" for the reason to buy this. The whole thing is a chopped up breaks extravaganza as was the old skool style.

That takes me back The Eclipse / The Edge Coventry '93 - '95. Can't say it was the highlight of my club days tbh Jungle was getting full of attitude and clubs had lost the atmosphere that pulled me in a few years before, but Randal, Doc Scott, DJ Hype, when it was good it was SO good. But I still relate the music to some of the shitty stuff I saw around that club. Unfair association but there all the same.

Saw him a couple of times at Sankeys and once at a big open air rave, 94 or 96, not sure now. Squeezed into a tent and a few minutes later he started bouncing 2 copies of Red 2 back and forth, didn't know if we were at a rave or in a mosh pit.

Origin Unkown made a lot of good music then and was before Ram Records started pumping out generic jump up. I always found that "Truly One" spoke to me more than "Valley of the Shadows" in those moments of er.... empathetic euphoria in the middle of a dance floor.

I always liked Techno, the hypnotic quality, but I never got into it. It's a genre I always think I want to know more about but never find the moment to make the step towards. I have a few mixes that I listen to sometimes and I guess that just satisfies the itch.

It's like any genre there's a ton of niches within techno. Maybe you've just not found the niche you click into.

Head front panel, Surgeon, inigo Kennedy, Neil Landstrumm, Paul birken, Regis, makaton, Oliver ho, d.a.v.e the drummer, Perc, blawan, are some of my favourite producers.

Good labels for me include djax-up-beats, downwards, rodz-konez, tresor, dynamic tension,......

Look for some Jerome hill mixes he's brilliant at pulling all different styles of techno and beyond together.

Techno m8, sorry to bring you back to the 60s, but I'm following up on Joe Meek again.

If you haven't investigated him before, I think you'd find the whole history fascinating. I bought the definitive book about him a while ago: https://www.abebooks.co.uk/book-search/ ... hn-repsch/. Kerist! £75 2nd-hand now! I seem to have a collector's item, bought it when it came out.

I have quite a large vinyl collection of his stuff, including a few rarities. He was arguably, no not arguably, he was, the first independent engineer/producer. He was obsessed by new sounds, using all sorts of home-grown electronics. Bear in mind this was 60 years ago. Still, no reason can't have both .
