Bottle cage for wider bottles
I’m interested in recommendations for a bottle cage to hold a wider than average water bottle.
The bottle is metal and is approx 80mm wide.
The majority of bike bottles are 70mm and cages are designed around this. None in my collection (Specialized side entry, Profile Kate, Specialized Rib and a few others) fit the bill.
At a push I could use my Bike Buddy but ideally it’d be easier to get at on the hoof.
Also l’m unsure as to whether the Bike Buddy would be strong enough for full MTB use even though it’s done a continent or two’s worth of savage dirt roads.
Cheers

I thought that but the various module cages adjust smaller from 73-74mm max and I don’t think the xl version is what I need.
The bottle in question is a 1L Sigg WM

I use a Topeak Modula XL to hold a 1 Litre Sigg bottle under my downtube. It's designed for standard 1.5 l plastic water bottles found everywhere so it needs cutting down for the rubber strap to fit around the neck of a Sigg bottle but thats an easy job.

Good try. Not seen one of those. Unfortunately it’s designed around a 93mm bottle - Nalgene or Klean Kanteen 40oz.
I do have a KK40oz but it may be too wide for the space.
I wanna make the Sigg work because the spout has a decent full sized cover.

Blackburn Tallboy will take a 24 oz can if you remove the sleeve. I believe a 24 oz can has an OD of just under 3.5", so it might be a reasonable fit.

Sounds promising but my hunch is that the rubber strap Jobbie will be something of a faff with a sports cap and on the go drinking.pistonbroke wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 12:51 pm I use a Topeak Modula XL to hold a 1 Litre Sigg bottle under my downtube. Yeah but, no, but. Dimensions look great - 82.5mm internal width - but it’s made by Blackburn. Blackburn’s parent company is a big financial supporter of both the NRA and Trump..... can’t give them my money. Time to look for a second hand one.Bearbonesnorm wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 12:55 pm Blackburn Tallboy will take a 24 oz can if you remove the sleeve. I used to have an alloy cage a similar shape to this

Mine wasn't a Lezyne one and it didn't have an integral pump mount, mine was a cheap one and I can't remember the make. What I can remember is that the sides could be gently bent to increase the grip on the bottle so I would think they could be open-up/reshaped to work with a larger diameter bottle.

Thanks for the replies. In the end i’ve managed to get the bottle into a Profile Kage with some light modifications. It’s a bit of a squeeze to get it in and i’m not convinced it’s gonna hold tightly even so. I’ll just need to ride to check it out.

I've not got one, but seen some decent reviews on an Ozzy YouTube channel.

Nice find. If my altered Kage doesn’t hold out it looks like we have a winner!
