Inbred upgrades

Hey.
I'm after some advice/suggestions of cost effective upgrades.

I have a large on one inbred, 29er rigid bike. It's nice to ride but it's seems quite heavy.

It currently has on one smorgasbord and chunky monkey tyres - looking at swapping them for something lighter.

Any other suggestions of things to change out to make it a bike more "lightweight/bikepackery"?

I'd look at your wheels and cassette as potential areas to save weight.

DN6 / standard tubing and Inbreds in generally do not tend to be light steel bikes.

Rigid forks (carbon or metal) can also save weight but trade off in comfort and cost (which is subjective / personal).

Carbon forks/ bars and hope/ Stan's crest wheelset on mine make it lightish.

As Tim says, forks will make a big difference. I ran Salsa steel forks on mine for years but changed them to something carbon and the difference could certainly be felt.

Tyres and going tubeless will obviously be a good thing too.

All in all, I've bikepacked more miles on my Inbred than any other bike. It's not a lightweight whippet but it's comfy and just does it's thing largely without fault.

i assume a frame change will be cheaper than a wheelset change

you cannot make a heavy framed bike light - though of course you can make it lighter but its a bad starting point

Tyres
Carbon seatpost
Lighter seat
carbon bars
Everything else is[expensive] marginal gains IMHO- and not many of those above are cheap
probably as easy to buy a cheap light bike and not much cost difference

Single speed it, get some lighter wheels. Job done. Superlight tyres are a bad way to save weight IME, unless you’re riding locally on smooth trails. I really like those On-One tyres.

Aye, I went down that route with a Surly 29+ ECR,
All the light bits are now on my salsa
