I've made it home from my April Bivi. I left the garmin on all night to record the temperature which only got down to 6 deg. As there is some minor error from one recorded point to the next it actually showed me traveling 0.3 miles during the night so that will count to my yearly mileage total

Despite the warm conditions my companion, Ralph, insisted in getting in my bivi bag with me



Maybe he was worried that whatever has been emptying out our recycling bin food caddy recently might come for him in the night? I think it must be a badger as I left a concrete block on the lid and it still knocked it over. A very relaxed start to the day with the best coffee I've ever had on a bivi thanks to the recently purchased Aeropress Go and a BB 22g stove



I've been using the Aeropress every day as I'm working from home, perhaps in the current situation I should refer to it as the Aeropress Stay (at home) My setup seems quite minimal compared to some but for me that was more than I usually take on a local bivi



Eventually I decided I should pack up and head home, but Ralph wasn't so keen, for a first timer he's got the bug already and seems very relaxed



Whether he'll be so relaxed next month well see as I might not take the luxury of the Deschutes.

A Strangely enjoyable backyard camping experience, I’d been for my allotted blast earlier in the day, come to think of it I might actually end up fitter after this is all over, I’m doing stretches and some yoga and rather than plodding along actually riding hard in the short time I’m out.
Where was I ? Oh yes, enjoyable. Even John said that it wasn’t like being in the back garden. Fresh night air and a bright moon and stars we’re just what was needed.

Cheers Steve. I have to say despite the technical mess, my own night in the garden was just lovely. Super weather, nice fire, no pressure. And this evening is even nicer. Kinda wish Id not pulled down the tarp and hammock.

Noooo-o-o-o! Not someone else who likes cheese with fruit in it! Mrs Perrin has Wensleydale with apricots, but only at Christmas thank goodness. Wallace would have a fit. It's as bad as putting any type of fruit into ice-cream. An abomination I tell ya, an abomination.

(Nice moon though. Which, as everyone knows, is obviously made of cheese. But can you see any fruit in that photo? No of course not. I rest my case).

I'm quite enjoying sleeping in the garden, gives me a chance to test out different sleeping set ups knowing I can always get a second bag/duvet if I've made a boo-boo.

Extremely grudgingly, I think we'll allow Colin's cheese/fruitcake combo. I'll even admit to partaking thereof at Christmas. Completely different situation to the deliberate insertion of fruit though.

But only if he gives us a nice glass of port with it. Or a bottle of Innes & Gunn.

Bivy catch up time! Februrary was a leap year spectacular, heading out about 11pm on the 29th just to really push the limit on last minute. Didn't ride too far, just out to the end of my extended commute route and slept at the edge of Durris Forest. Rainy night and frozen morning.

Nice and dry after a wet and windy night, luckily had the tarp up before it got going.


Bit of snow still kicking about as well as rain frozen overnight.




This took me to 2/2 and number 26 in a row.

March was done incredibly early for me, as I got paranoid there was going to be a ban on travel, which obviously turned out to be uncharacteristically prophetic for me. It was also kept local before that became a thing as I was kipping about a mile from where I work. I threw some gear on the Commando and headed for the Aberdeen coastal path, which I had been eyeing up on a couple of previous rides for a seaside bivy.

With everything that followed, I'm glad I got it in before the lockdown, though I see a garden bivy in my future, no matter how late in April I leave it! That's 3/3 for this year so far, number 27 in a row.

Was going to join in the Sat night bivi with my eldest but the farmer decided to muck spread the field at the back and it was a bit rank for a couple of days - but it's dried nicely (no stink now) so we were out last night... loads of owls in the woods above and a great dawn chorus
