What's in your hip flask?
Prompted by the various tipply responses to "Bob's first bivvy", what's in your hip flask*?
I'll normally take a single malt, preferably summat unsubtle and peaty, hut I've recently been developing a taste for some Calvados or Armagnac...
*lightweight soft flask/plastic bottle/friendly St Bernard's cask...

Whatever malt I have open at the time (or a selection thereof).
I've a hankering to try out some nice dark rums though.

Añejo Tequila, primarily. Or if I'm feeling "exotic" some spiced rum, maybe brandy, but it's usually Tequila
Re: What's in your hip flask?
Usually single malt. Sometimes whisky mac
Re: What's in your hip flask?
After spending my yoof plonking a ¼ bottle of Grouse (or Bells) into a glass bottle of Irn Bru, and then necking it, I just can't drink the stuff any more. I was never a fan of the peaty stuff, always preferring a Spayside, but beer is my thing, which doesn't pack down quite so well. Might have to look into Gin in the hip flask, and a few wee cans of tonic, although G&T without ice is quite sad.
There are theories at the bottom of my jargon.

Re: What's in your hip flask?
Mount Gay Black Barrel rum. I have far fancier, but it's the one most people seem to enjoy when it's shared.
I also sometimes take Old Pultney whisky as it's the only whisky I've ever really developed much of a taste for.

(That's not including the samples, of which I had 40)

Oh man... we really should have met up. I had 14 different rums with me.ScotRoutes wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 10:46 pm I've a hankering to try out some nice dark rums though.

Usually whisky, too many to mention
I've shared Port with Taylor many years ago.
The generally chilly evening temps of the UK will probably ensure a G&T is nice and cool without ice.

As a whisky man, I appreciate tasting my wife's gin without tonic. I just think the tastes of the various flavourings are better this way. Add tonic and it overwhelms everything.

If your tastes lean towards it then Amarula (or Baileys) for the full "proppie koffie" experience.
I find the small plastic tonic, ginger ale etc bottles great for carrying whatever booze is required. Re-usable, light, high grade plastic so pretty benign / not prone to taint, packable and strong. Just mentioning before the inevitable turn of conversation to "which hipflask" ;-)

Ha. I have a couple but it's normally my Surly one. It was a freebie from a Fat Forth gathering many moons ago.

For bothy trips I used to have Port in the hip flask and also take some cheese and biscuits.
My flask is a Single Track Magazine one from a promotion years ago.

Is that like a cheeky Vimto on steroids...?

Re: What's in your hip flask?
Normally it’s my single malt that’s open in the house. Like something with a nice Peaty kick to it and normally accompanied with a little cheese and crackers. Only luxury I really take.
Re: What's in your hip flask?
Hip flask doesn't get as much use as i'd like, but if so then whiskey that's smooth and not too peaty. Love Penderyn. More recently Port, as it's moreish and you can have more.
