Brecon to Newtown Route Ideas?

I've got to be in Newtown for a few days towards the end of June and I'm thinking of turning the journey there and back into a bit of a bikepacking adventure. I'm heading up from Cardiff and have a pretty good idea of routes up to the Brecon area, but I'm much less familiar beyond that. Does any one have any suggestions of a route (vague or otherwise) or any good sections that could be linked into a route on the way to/from Newtown?

There's a section of the EWE that heads west from Brecon through Sennybridge on the Sarn Helen then north to the Elan Valley: http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?l ... mplete.gpx

I'd then probably head through Hafren Forest to Carno then east to Newtown, but not sure of details.
