Coldest winter in 30 years.
How do they know this? They can't generally predict further than two days with any level of accuracy, so four months up front seems somewhat far-fetched. Is it simply that some news outlets can't think of anything else to print?
May the bridges you burn light your way

ha ha same headlines every year
As someone who has to track weather systems for beer forecasting, this year the summer has been pretty average
No where near as good as last year

Bl00dy Evening Standard can’t help themselves with these stories.Bearbonesnorm wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 9:34 am How do they know this? Met Office spokesman Bonnie Diamond said: "It is set to get colder as we head into winter, with snow possible in places - as it is every winter.

Are you going to have another go Dave? Love to see you get that done around the shortest days (like the original winter BGR)Dave Barter wrote: ↑Tue Sep 10, 2019 9:58 am They have heard about my December plan to ride the HT550

And if they're all laying down it's going to rain...

The boar around my way are getting very active now snouting up the ground, reckon that's a week or two earlier than usual. BUT (this one is for you Reg)... I bought a fleece a couple of weeks ago - that is, a fleece, not some fancy technical down or primaloft jobbie - so it'll probably be a mild winter

We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Re: Coldest winter in 30 years.
Bloody hell, I thought you'd seen a reliable long range forecast when I saw the thread title and for a moment my hopes were high....
I predict that this winter we will get a range of precipitation, wind speeds, wind directions and temperatures.

That's the most accurate forecast we'll see for a while

It sells papers full stop. They find some barmy meteorologist who has made this prediction so if they are pulled for publishing lies they can point the finger at the barmy meteorologist and say he said so. Idiots who are prone to reading these rags fall for it every year,

fingers crossed I get to use my ice axe and crampons, plus the all season tyres on the car
Re: Coldest winter in 30 years.
I'm fairly sure a lot of it comes from Piers Corbyn (Jeremys brother). He runs a thing called Weather Action which apparently has some success in long range forecasting. I could be wrong but I think councils use him for predicting winter salt stocks, newspapers use him for ridiculous headlines, etc.
Warning, the site isn't easy on the eyes.

It’s also a bit heavy on the climate change conspiracy theories amongst other stuff.Warning, the site isn't easy on the eyes

Re: Coldest winter in 30 years.
Well this morning's been one of those: "Want some different weather? Just wait!" sort of mornings. 8am and there was about 100m visibility through the horizontal rain, it's now just about wall to wall sunshine
The tabloids love their frenzied, froth inducing headlines but I wouldn't trust them to tell me what yesterday's weather was nevermind tomorrow's.
