May the bridges you burn light your way

You know I was all ready to start laughing until I watched the video. Not a bad idea really if the claims are to be believed. Looks a very natural way to propel you along.
Also website has some subtle and unnecessary eye candy making me believe I will be that popular with the ladies if I buy one

Its been done before a few times, right back to pioneering days, and steam engines use a similar set up to drive wheels so all they have done is use modern materials and machining. Stiffness of the treddles(!) will be an issue as well as bearing life and sealing but it could be a goer I 'spose.....
I guess as always, the biggest problem will be convincing people. Be interested to see comparative power transfer and efficiency figures.

somethings on a bike have not improved for centuries because they are the best way of doing things
I like the way the boldly claim that their 4 gear system weighs the same as a ten gear alternative - as if that is a good thing .
Things like this never catch on though I would like to ride one- mainly to see if you can actually do a wheelie on one

Firstly I'm not convinced about it reducing knee pain as your knees are still flexing. Secondly I don't like the overall tone of the add as it concentrates on and exaggerates far too much on the supposedly negative aspects of chain drive. What cyclist who knows what he's doing holds the mech the way he did when removing the back wheel for god's sake. Lastly as has been said, it's already been done.

I didn't realise quill stems were so popular? Our frames are designed to accommodate the most popular off-the-shelf components

yes but we have all had our trousers sheared from our body and end up completely entangled in the chainWhat cyclist who knows what he's doing holds the mech the way he did when removing the back wheel for god's sake

A good idea produced by roadies who've only ever ridden in the most conservative manner.
What's the coasting position on hte nubike? Whatever, it's not going to be as stable or as tunable as on a standard transmission, and for this reason its dead in the water. Can you imagine riding a rough descent with this, bum off the saddle, feet more or less right next to each other? No thanks.
Hard cornering on any fast road - again, not a stable position. No thanks.
Nice idea though, and I'd love a go on one. Just for the experience.

It just looks wrong. I would love to have a go on one though.
May satan walk with you

Maybe we're looking at it from the wrong angle. Instead of a replacement for a conventional bike for us 'cyclists' who want to go out an ride long distances up steep hills and off road, how about as a human powered means of transport to get non-cyclists out of their cars?
It rides like a bike so most people will be able to manage that, but no chain to oil/maintain and it wont leave an oily mark on your leg/trousers. As it's got no chain to get your trousers caught in you can just wear your normal clothes when riding it. It's only got 4 gears but does that matter if your ride is across town to work and it's relatively flat all the way?
I'm all for anything that might reduce the number of unnecessary car journeys. It also looks less daft than those stand up scooter things you 'pedal' like you're walking upstairs so it's a

^^^ I like that perspective,

Problem is it is still human powered and they are too laxyhow about as a human powered means of transport to get non-cyclists out of their cars?
bikes with "engines"- probably with canopies - and car free routes are about the only thing that will change this
a colleague told me how he "nearly died" cycling the 5 flat miles to work that day and rang his wife for a lift home. This is what we are dealing with.

To be fair they seem to be marketing it as an exercise product rather than a bicycle.johnnystorm wrote: ↑Thu Jul 11, 2019 7:42 pm I know a chap who bought one of these.
