I definitely do not want some rad DH baggies.

Any recommendations please ?

Got some just below the knee plain olive shorts off dare2b when I was getting the boy some skii gear the other year not cycling but a stretchy fabric ,look perfectly normal cost next to nothing and have lasted around 6000 mile ,Arse is still ok but starting to rip a little by the fly ,,will be replacing with another pair pronto ,or have a look at Madison softshell shorts ,they also last forever and don't look like cycling shorts

thinking about it...based on Ton's response. I have used the Decathlon lightweight summer shorts over my lycra in the past.

They are light & dry super quick - perhaps that is all I need.

I use either a pair of endura singletrack 3/4s or craghopper hiking shorts over the a pair of endura liner bibs for most riding. Thankfully the industry seems to be moving away from the fluoro pyjama look.

Disclaimer, I work for Evans - but both the FWE and Kalf 'not-too-baggies' are excellent. Non-Enduro styling, fitted and durable. I struggle to put any signs of wear on the FWEs, even after a couple of years of regular use.

Alpkit Floe. Yes they have Alpkit down one leg but they are very comfortable and I wear them as much (actually more) off the bike than on it.

Oh... I use Endura MTR II

Light, stretchy yet not too flimsy - but - as with any other thin pant, one hard crash and they are in pieces. Only things that saves such lightweight pants is their elasticity.
When not affected by crashing they hold up well, especially given how the fabric feels.

Good amount of wind shedding, yet still airy. Same with water. After a dozen or a bit more wash cycles the DWR weakens and they won't repell any water anymore. I don't do anything about it, as they dry really quick and - as stated above - don't let too much wind through.

Rather narrow cut along legs, not too flappy - just the right amount imo. A bit much fabric around the bum though for a size where leg length and width would otherwise be spot on for my likings.

I usually visit an annual exhibition to meet some folks from the industry, but most of all, to get those pants for a better price

It's 31 °C in the shade at the moment. Soon off for a ride in the MTR pants. I might go for a swim (every 10 min) on the way. Not the first time they have to show amphibious properties.

I hate gloves and so anything above about -5°c and I'm glove free

Back on topic.....for the last five years I've worn nothing but NZO shorts and I love 'em!

Once the temperature gets above zero I live in them until the next winter arrives.

It was so hot, I should have worn gloves due to the sweaty (like really wet) hands -> less grip. Usually I can swipe my palms off on my clothes and grip is as good as it gets, but thanks to wet clothing it didn't really work.
Gloves help with this. At least with the gloves - grips combination I use.

That static sweat flow down the arms... mmhhh... summer riding...
