Hi
I know some of you are gearing up to ride the wrt.
I fully intend to enter next year....

What I would like to know is, are any of you doing the bontrager24/12?
Just curious to know about any fueling/riding tips etc.
I will be riding the 12hour solo.
Grubby little urchin.

I did the 12hrs of Exposure last year and fueling was pretty easy. I worked on my normal AR strategy of something every 45 mins, whether that's half a banana, a gel, flapjack, whatever. That and some "real food" (baked tattie, sarnies etc) every couple of laps did me fine.

Hi Kumquat,

I'm doing the 12hr ride (note I said ride and not race ;) ) and my mate is doing the full 24hrs.

From experience I can say that the biggest help is having some sort of pit crew there. When you're knackered late at night it makes it so much easier if you can have short breaks and you can just walk back to your pit and be thrust a hot drink and some food. Also they can give you bike a bit of a clean on the off chance its got any mud on it.

Having lots of energy gels, bars and "healthy food" is all well and good but sometimes it's easier just to fuel your body with a bit of junk to make sure you've got something inside you.

If its a very hot day and your sweating lots then a tip I was given was muching pretzels is good for replenishing lost salt

Look out for me, I'll be riding at the back :D

The biggest hurdle I've ever found at 24 hour races is the tedious boredom, induced by riding the same fairly short course for hour after hour ... learn to cope with that and the riding part's easy ;)

Doing the 24hr solo this year. Ill have a bucket of energy gels and general crap. I'm not really approaching this scientifically, just factoring on the above mentioned "something is better than nothing" idea!

Doing my first 24 solo years back, the most useful advice I got (saw me through many more after that )was from Chris Eatough; "After about 8 hours riding your digestive system starts revolting against food (particularly energy drinks /gels /bars which aren't designed as 'endurance' foods) so make sure you have on hand at the pits something of everything you could possibly think you might eat - sardines, cupcakes, grapefruit, spam, tomatoes, whatever... then you'll almost always be able to fuel up.
