GPS batteries - Li-Ion AAs or Nimh?

Post by Stevemorg »

What batteries do you use in your GPS? - Nimhs have let me down in the past (though they could just be getting on a bit) so I wondering if its worth going for Li-Ions for the WRT.

I've an Etrex 20 if that makes any difference

I just use normal Duracell Ultra Power in my old Etrex H, a fresh pair and a spare pair has done me the three days on every previous year.

I've just had a few days experimenting with this. Started off with new Sanyo Eneloop xxx Nimh which lasted about 12 hours before the gps told me they were getting low. Then tried normal Duracells and got exactly the same results ... both with the battery saver function on.

It was very cold, windy and wet which I'm sure had an effect on performance.

I posted a graph on this similar thread: http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB ... 416#p17416

They've got all kinds of other geeky stuff on the site if you start searching and can look at all the variables such as temperature, discharge rates, number of cycles etc., but I think the graph is the best explanation of what's expected.

Here's a good thread on performance if you want you NiMH.
From what I hear, Lithium batteries are far better than alkaline...the only thing I've got to back this up at the moment is from using them for agggeeeesss in my wireless keyboard though
