Id be really surprised if Alan G scratches. I think hes finished every year to date.
Maybe hes heading for food and shelter to rejoin later?

To get there he’d have gone past the campsite at Cannich which does hot food, and he knows more about the route and surrounds than most.

Re: Highland Trail 2019
Stu, the forecast yesterday morning was for bad weather from 0000 to 0800 this morning then improving but it started earlier and is now forecast for the next couple of days.
proof I suppose that there's a very fine line between too much and too little and factors beyond your control can easily shift the balance.
May the bridges you burn light your way

There's a cafe and Spar at Cannich which is just off-route on the outward route and about three miles down the glen from Tomich

Maybe a case of if you've done it that many times, you don't need to do it again when its this bad.

I really feel for the riders out there. I know only too well what that route is like in poor show conditions.

Looks like Javi, Sean and James hayden all seem to be on the 150th mile(ish)... Well done all and the rest. Can't believe James Hayden still part of the race... He's obviously becom/becoming a more rounded rider and got what it takes to face the elements...
For some reason I thought Bob was riding but seems its his other half only?? (or have I still misunderstood??)

Re: Highland Trail 2019
James Hayden did seem to be doing the walk of shame in the early hours so kudos for getting back in the game.
Now that the route doesn't go through Poolewe, what's the alternative at Fisherfield? Same as previous plus ride back in to the track above Letterewe or roads all the way to Kinlockewe?

There’s a post from Alan on Instagram reporting how “not safe” it is out there: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx6wQh9FJip

I slept overnight in my van about 100 miles from these guys and the rain was so heavy and loud on the roof of the van that I barely slept all night. I just lay there listening to it and thinking how utterly miserable they must all be.

I've spoken with other riders who are.... touring out.
Alan has confirmed his return leg to me - tracking for a reason - to show others.

It's almost as if they are getting that data from the actual feed.... oh wait, that's me.redefined_cycles wrote: ↑Sun May 26, 2019 10:31 am Dotwatcher just tweeted (26 minutes ago) Cath Wightman confirmed scratched... Well done for braving it this far ... wow

Re: Highland Trail 2019
If Alan is returning home, at pace, then you must get the impression something is up with the weather.

Caffeine powered Adrian Baskerville is still moving forward and will be dropping down to the sanctuary of Cannich soon. At 64 he's a true Highland Trail veteran and tough as old boots. It will be interesting to see what he does next.

Re: Highland Trail 2019
I scratched this morning in FA. Stopped early yesterday at the Blackburn bothy as I would at least be out of the weather. The rain through the night was hammering down. Most of my kit is wet so didn't want to carry on further north then have more trouble getting back. Even small stream crossings are now torrents. Hope everyone still out there stays safe.
