They have a starting fee for the ‘race’ yet have the cheek to use the tag #outsideisfree at the very top of the page...

I think the ~£41 will be the least of your costs ya tightwads.

Looks interesting
This caught my eye
all finishers will get at proper Cabin Fever tattoo.
Is that lost in translation or do you get a tattoo? Aimed at hipsters?
Being serious, I was just speaking to a rider at an event last weekend, he'd been to one of the Scandinavian countries recently, he said the trails are great and the little huts/shelters you can sleep in mean you can take less kit. He's going back in the summer to ride it again but without the snow.

While there is a certain irony in #OutsideIsFree but we're charging you for it anyway, it's only £40 which is neither here not there. It's likely to be really good I reckon.

Just pointing out the ironing in the tag line, have paid upwards of £400 for race fees in the past, so no complaints from me

Looks like a stunning venue... I like this idea (Stu
)

How many loops you finish is up to you, and your inner demons.
Shades of the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barkley_Marathons loops....Each loop is secret until you finished your last.

I’d think the entry fee is covering the gps tracker they provide.
Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
Looks a great area to ride, and lovely cabins in true Scandi 'everyman's right' style. Main problem for me would be paying to be doing it when it's busy with other people doing the same. I'd want it to be just me, the mozzies, and a grumpy elk.

Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
Saw this on FB. Won't be doing the group start this year, but as I travel to southern Sweden for work sometimes, I might try and tie it in next year.
Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
anybody know an airline that flies near to there and takes bikes at a reasonable cost?
Ryanair is approx £50 return for me but an extra £120 for the bike!

Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
Not sure if this is helpful as it's a bit further north than I normally go, but it's worth considering Copenhagen airport as an option for southern Sweden. Malmo is just across the bridge and you get the train or bus. If you can get cheap flights from your UK airport of choice, it might be worth considering.dlovett wrote:anybody know an airline that flies near to there and takes bikes at a reasonable cost?

Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
if you book either BA or SAS (Swedish airline) and choose the option to have 23kg hold luggage, that includes bike, as i have just booked for Vatterundan
Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
BA are going in at approx £140 including bike as part of the luggage. The organisers have also sent me a 90km route from Gothenberg airport to the start town, that's mainly paved and gravel but off all main roads. Just need the time off of work now and then it's a go.
Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
Like. Thanks Rich.

Here is the route from Gothenberg Airport to the start town as provided to me by the organisers.

Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
Well I signed up and booked flights, so here is hoping it's good fun. Anybody else from they parish doing it?
Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
Well the organisers have sent more details of the event and to be honest it looks brilliant. Every rider is issued with a sat tracker for safety, so you don't need your own spot/inreach.
As it's the first year, they have actually released the gpx files of the loops in advance, rather than issuing the next one after you complete it.
Lap 1 176.6km 1530m
Lap 2 176.4km 1701m
Lap 3 238.5km 2117m
Lap 4 133.8km 1869m
Event total 725.3km 7217m
The event starts at 10am on Thursday and finishes a 1pm on Sunday.
Each loop has two check points which include having to take a Selfie with a Bison and a pyramid at a certain point on each loop. There are several places where you have to get a selfie with a certain view as well.
The terrain and elevation profiles also look pretty good.

Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
Holy Moly having traced the first two loops, they do indeed have lots of trees and lakes in the Jonkoping area. It seems like a tour of most of them!! I thought it looked very flat until I realised that the strange building at the checkpoint on sat images, was the top station of a cable car.

Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
the strange cable car is because it's a ski resort in the winter.
Re: Sweden - Cabin Fever 600k
Well I'm off to Sweden at an ungodly hour tomorrow. Fingers crossed the weather will stay as forecast. The Loops look excellent, admittedly slightly longer than was suggested. The biggest issue I can see is that the food options are a bit limited en-route. There is a welcome dinner on Wednesday and then it's route 1 from first thing Thursday morning. The current plan is to try and get the first loop done as quickly possible and then try to sleep at the basecamp for a few hours and then off again at dawn. Repeat four times.
If I get any internet over there I'll try to share the tracking link.
Good luck for the WRT and TD folks.

Wow I have never seen as many forests and lakes anywhere as I did out of the window of the plane coming into Gothenburg. It did look reasonably flat compared to day Wales A quick check of the bike bag and all looks ok, just the bus journey for it to survive now.
T5 BA Bag drop lady: Is it heavy? Me: not really within the limit. And that was it, they didn’t look at it, ask any other questions, or even weight it! It was tagged and then I carted it off to oversize bags. Hopefully it’s that simple coming home.
