Alzheimer’s is properly sub standard. Lost my amazing granny to it, though long enough ago now to be able to remember as she properly was. Good friend’s dad died earlier this week also from dementia. We’re going out this morning for a head clearing ride. So, sorry to hear of your loss and glad you are making a ride thing of it. Hope it helps. I’ve found now I really can think of the good stuff and not the six years of heartbreaking poor show with my gran. And given she taught me to ride a bike....

Having a real sh1t time atm. Friday we learnt that a German friend that lives in our valley succumbed to a 12 month fight against cancer and last night a real bombshell, a good friend from Holmfirth lost her 23 year old son and ex-husband in a car crash. Things, as they say, can only get better.

A ride, hike and ride in search of some VV squares and completing a little project of mine. I've now been up every summit I can see from my house (or from Aviemore in general).

We've had a wee bit of snow over the past few days too.

Blimey. Fair play to anyone kipping out tonight, round here anyway. 45mph winds. Just been to the station to get a/ my WRT bike reservations, and b/ some reservations for a little toddle over to Forest of Dean in April, direct train to Lydney from Brum which is easy. Rode via the woods - lots of branches down and quite a risk of being smacked by another one.

Just been out again on t'bike. It's fairly bonkers out there. However had to do my bit again with 'toad rescue' on one of the local roads, which is inconveniently situated between 'toad field' and 'toad pond'. Good effort tonight - we managed 123! Not many ways you can save over a hundred lives in an evening .

I went out early doors this morning. No beers last night meant I was able to leave the house at 4:30 and start riding at 5am. My intended day did not materialize as the cloud was low on the summits of the Carneddau with quite a stiff breeze. So just bimbled about and caught the sunrise.

Did a ride down the Pennine Bridleway to Hebden Bridge then back via Howarth and the Leeds Liverpool Canal.

I almost cleaned this climb, which is on the old Skipton to Howarth road, but dabbed at this point after slipping in mud. Cath cleaned this bit but dabbed lower down.

There was a really strong headwind on the way out.


We picked up the Mary Towneley Loop and headed towards Hebden Bridge.

Target acquired!


On the way back. This is the top of the climb to Top o' Stairs. This is the old road between Hebden Bridge and Howarth, the current road is now about a mile further east.

About five minutes after we got home there was a sharp shower but we'd been lucky all day with the weather (apart from the wind)

After a few weeks poorly, being diagnosed with a stomach ulcer/H pylorii and now full of antibiotics, managed a circuit over Stoodley Pike and back down one of Hebden Bridges rootier descents. 3 hours and two food breaks for ten miles! A spring Mary Townley Loop seems distant, but on Thursday I should bag March's BAM.
Here's the new (with the exception of the frame) Sherpa on dry trails....
