Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy.
I reckon there are three options from Newtonmore to the Bothy;
(a) (revised) original suggestion along to Loch Gynack to Kingussie, Ruthven and General Wades road (most scenic/wild)
(b) NCN 7 from Newtonmore to Kingussie and Ruthven then General Wades road (a bit shorter, definitely a lot flatter)
(c) via Ralia Lodge, Braes of Nuide and Milton of Nuide (about 8km, half on tarmac)
Maybe it's a question of waiting for conditions and seeing how we each are on the night?
I'm still assuming that I'll just ride down from Aviemore. I'm tempted by the Loch Cuaich-Phones track but there are no southbound Dalwhinnie trains between 10:43 and 15:50.
FWIW I reckon there's space for 4/5 tents around the bothy before the ground gets a bit too hillocky.
There's a river nearby. Easy walking distance for water.

Damn! I bought a fat bike partly based on watching you gently pootle past me last year through the snow en route to the bothy, so some proper riding of it would have been fun.htrider wrote: doesn't look like a snowy epic is on the cards

Where would they likely be riding in from Phil?
Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy.
My tyres are nearly an inch fatter than last year but still far from fat, a light dusting of snow will suit me just fine, an hour trudging up a hill in ankle to knee deep snow may make me start greeting this yearAlasdairMc wrote:Damn! As usual I'm bringing tunes and speaker (I've invested in a decent one). I've got loads of memory to download any requests, just let me know what artist and album and I'll sort it.

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy.
Hoping to meet the bunch in Dalwhinnie carpark by the garage 2pm if thats still the plan. Still have to make travel plans though.
I'll be training it from Huntly if I do come. Might travel Friday and stay in the area.
I'll bring tent
I know htrider and his 2 friends from Speyside- I still have same mobile no.

I’ll have my own phone with me, so I’ll have an eclectic collection of tunes on there too.Ray Young wrote:As usual I'm bringing tunes and speaker (I've invested in a decent one). I've got loads of memory to download any requests, just let me know what artist and album and I'll sort it.

The week ahead - mostly quiet weather through until midweek when things will turn gradually more unsettled from the west, by weekend deep areas of low pressure will pile in from the Atlantic bring spells of rain and strong to gale force winds.
No sign of any prolonged cold or snowy weather in the reliable forecast period.

Re: Scottish Winter Bivvy.
Travel plans: I’m thinking of leaving Edinburgh around 11:30 to give enough time for food either in Dalwhinnie or en route, meeting at the car park at the garage. Incidentally if you look on Google Streetview at the garage there’s a van very similar to mine, albeit minus the rust and probably somewhat newer.
Ray, Jamie - where shall we meet up? I’m thinking I’ll head over the bridge, so would somewhere like Corstorphine or Hermiston Gait work?

Oh no, that’s a real shame Ray. Please let me know if you’re feeling better and you change your mind.

I'm also lurgied so being lazy and knocking back the Lemsips. Pretty sure I'll still be there, even if it means cutting the ride short.
