WTD Large Seat pack
Revelate Viscacha preferred but something of same capacity range considered.
I'm close to giving up the struggle with my homemade effort based on a Carradice pack, and the saddlebag without a supporting frame just doesn't do the job although there is loads of space :(
Cheers

Eric of Revelate tells me that the Viscacha doesn't work with the long travel Thudbuster and I can't be doing without the Thudbuster :(
Cancel this want while I have rethink please! :)

Porcelain Rocket do a bag that will work, here's the link. Do a search on google images to see some folks' setups with it.
I reaise this might not be what you're looking for if you're posting a wanted ad on here but thought I'd share nonetheless.
EDIT: Here's a pic of a Viscacha setup on a Thudbuster though!

That's only for the short travel Thudbuster like the Viscacha is supposed to be.d45yth wrote:Porcelain Rocket do a bag that will work, here's the link. Do a search on google images to see some folks' setups with it.

Now that's interesting. That is a long travel Thudbuster. One of the seatpost straps is through the parallelogram but I can't see why that shouldn't work. Does it belong to someone you know?d45yth wrote: EDIT: Here's a pic of a Viscacha setup on a Thudbuster though!
Thanks for the link

No problem, and no it doesn't, I just searched Google images for 'seat bag thudbuster'.

Re: WTD Large Seat pack
The search is back on!
email to Eric and a quick reply (it must be daytime there) and he is suitably astounded.
The new bags don't have the double strap, just one 2" wide, so I'm after a used older Viscacha with the two seat post straps, please.
cheers and a big thanks to d45yth :)

Re: WTD Large Seat pack
So, that's my bicycle, and like many other things, I gave this a try without knowing I wasn't supposed to work. I guess I'm a little surprised to read that it's not really compatible with the long-travel Thudbuster, because it's gone reasonably well so far.
Two things: the parallelogram does steepen the angle of the bag, making it a bit higher behind the seat than I'd strictly like (a bit harder to throw a leg over and more likely to rub on the seat of my pants.) Also, I think this setup may cause the attachment points to wear prematurely because the seat rail attachment strap has to reach farther forward, and the square edges of the linkage might be wearing on the upper hook and loop strap.
I'm doing some scheduled maintenance on this bike over the weekend, so if I discover anything untoward, I'll try and remember to post it here, or at least on Flickr.

Thank you for replying. I spent an half hour last night going through your nom de plumes and websites (How many Michael Lembergers can there be in Wisconsin?) trying to find an email address to ask the questions that you have just answered. :DUncleBicycle wrote:So, that's my bicycle, and like many other things, I gave this a try without knowing I wasn't supposed to work. I'll be interested to read your post maintenance report.

Re: WTD Large Seat pack
There's been a lot more riding than bike maintenance going on here, but I've finally gotten to this. The bag looked good. The only damage of note was a small hole worn through by the aft saddle clamp fixing bolt on the Thudbuster. I'll repair that with a patch and some Shoe Goo.
The rest of the bag looks good.
Additional photos of the whole bag, mounting area, and Thudbuster are up on Flickr.
