Yorkshire Winter Bivi
Righto
Details below:
When - 15th Dec 11am meet for a noon depart
Where - Dales Bike Centre Cafe, DL11 6AW
Please dont park at the Cafe (There isnt enough room). Instead go into Reeth itself, as theres plenty of parking on the market square (DL11 6TH). Its about half a mile up the road.
Think it’s a couple of quid in the honesty box
What to expect:
~120k around Swaledale. Plenty of climbing and probably a bit of pushing
Pub for tea on Saturday, and hopefully a roof over our heads (no promises though)
Social pace

Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi
What weekend are you thinking Chew? Ray is planning the Scottish one for the same weekend as the Welsh one (15th). Don't make me choose!
Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi

Tradional that they're on the same weekend

Makes sense, I'm just trying to be greedy

Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi
Assuming nothing odd comes up, and I have no major assignments due or marking to do. I'll be there.

Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi
Will a gravel bike be okay for the route?
Might just mean more pushing.

have a good ride.
Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi
hmm, I was hoping to get away with changing my wheel bearings (car) over the christmas break, but they've got to the stage where the car is wandering all over the place now...
And whilst I could "quickly" swap them over with the set I have in stock, I'm then running a bit short on time etc. for the other things I'm meant to be doing at the same time. So I think I'm probably out unfortunately.

Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi
Sadly our MRT have scheduled our Christmas bucket shake for the same day - so I shall have to wuss out again.
Chew - I finish up work in Elland on the 21st for Crimbles. If you're about for the next two weeks I have much time to spend on bike, or pub :)

I'm still in for this if you're counting - it's always been my intention to come but just realised I never really said anything committal, just thought it

Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi
Think theres a handful out, and the pub/bothy have plenty of space to flex on numbers.
Greg - I'll give you a shout when the weather improves

Is there a route planned? Unsure which bike to prepare

Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi
There was, but looking at the forecast I may have to have a couple of options available.
https://www.yr.no/place/United_Kingdom/ ... /long.html
Could either be loads of snow, or loads of rain
Most of the route will be based around hard-standing tracks, with the usual dales track thrown in.

Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi
I remember the snow last year - it all landed in the South East when I was up in Yorkshire (although the frozen ground was great in terms of keeping clean!). After some chaos back home, I drove back on empty roads (admittedly a bit of drifting and snow ploughing on local roads).

Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi
Yup, it's certainly looking interesting in the weather department
It was colder last year, but fairly calm - looks like the wind chill's going to be pretty significant this weekend.
Would appreciate a vague idea of the route when you've made a choice Chew, just so I can let someone know where I'm going.
Do we need spare carrying capacity for firewood?
Sorry you can't make it Zip (though wheel bearings are poor excuse ;-p )
