Packraft thinking
If you had a packraft that carries your bike, where would you go in the UK for a several day trip.
I'm thinking of one but would need to justify it with some great trips either on bike or walking

Re: Packraft thinking
It'd be the Broads for me, mainly as they are on my doorstep. I just need to find which are the quiet bits, not that anyone travels much beyond walking pace on them!

Re: Packraft thinking
Outside of my current area of expertise, John, but I’ve heard Knoydart would be worth a look.

Assynt.
Outer Hebrides.
Fisherfield
Rannoch/Tay
South Loch Ness
Knoydart
Ardnamurchan/Ardgour
Remember that access rights in Scotland extend to water systems too (both natural and man made)
Get thee to Aviemore and book a session with Andy.

Possible alternative to Scotland - navigate the River Wye from source above Hafren Forest/Sweet Lamb to Chepstow, mix of off-road riding and rafting?
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

That'd be a good trip Peter. Often wondered about something similar along the Severn too.
May the bridges you burn light your way

South side of Suilven east to west - Cam Loch, Loch veyatie, fionn loch, out by the Falls of Kirkaig singletrack (which is ace)
Loch Ericht - use the boat to miss out the boggy single track bit or to go from Ericht lodge to Ben Alder cottage (returning over the bealach dubh.
Tons of options sans bike too - wandering around stac pollaidh, coast to coast Lochinver to the Dornoch firth are two I've looked at.

I was thinking of combining this with much of the HT northern loop, starting at Oykel Bridge and taking a diversion north from Lochan Sgeireach to Loch Dionard and then up to Cape Wrath before returning via the HAB to Sandwood Bay and then on to do what you’ve described and possibly a few more bits and pieces.Cam Loch, Loch veyatie, fionn loch, out by the Falls of Kirkaig singletrack
Glad the Kirkaig track is good. It sounds like the river is too (but a bit exciting for a novice on a loaded raft! https://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/riv ... er-kirkaig)

That would be epic - the Cape Wrath to Sandwood Bay is hard going by all accounts but I do have a hankering to take the fat bike along it.Charliecres wrote:I was thinking of combining this with much of the HT northern loop, starting at Oykel Bridge and taking a diversion north from Lochan Sgeireach to Loch Dionard and then up to Cape Wrath before returning via the HAB to Sandwood Bay and then on to do what you’ve described and possibly a few more bits and pieces.Cam Loch, Loch veyatie, fionn loch, out by the Falls of Kirkaig singletrack
