Nice write up Eric, thanks. You mentioned to me previously about the private road and dogs sign and from your photo I'm positive you where looking at the wrong path. You should cross a locked gate onto a gravel road seperated by a fence from a house and a big fishing pond on your right at NT086348. I'll take a drive out to double check it. The bridleway up White Kielder Burn, it doesn't exist on the ground. I tried it once from the other end and only got a few hundred metres. I contacted the local riding club and they confirmed that it's like that along its whole length otherwise I would have put it in instead of the forest drive. The caravan you took a photo of at White Hope Edge has to me a distinct "Deliverance" feel to it. The time I looked in there where pornographic and hunting mags on the bedside table. I personally wouldn't feel very comfortable sleeping there.

I thought I must have been wrong, but checking here on Memory Map on my PC, you can see I was at 086 348...
So will be interested what you conclude after taking a drive out there...

Ray - would I be correct that you are meant to keep to the left track to skirt the pond, and the dog warning signs are to dissuade you from taking the right fork heading towards the house?

Has anybody else had any bother there?

Howard, that's great, why didn't I think of that. Yes the track to the left is the one you want. I've been that way three times and either AlasdairMac or htrider have been at least once without bother.

Yup that's the one - I think you still have to cross a locked gate but you bypass the bit with the house and the mutts.

Google is great, especially for little details and to save a car journey!, but sometimes it takes all the adventure out of a trip. I’m trying to stop myself using it too much (with mixed success )
