It's one hell of a diversion if not. Gutted for Mike for same reason Mart.Mart wrote:Bugger - Now coming down the Dundonnell Rd. Noticed he'd stopped for a bit on the descent coming down the last humpDave Barter wrote:Our Mike has done a backtrack and gone off route, I hope all is OK?

Generally, as long as there's food he'll keep riding - I'm really hoping this isn't game over for him. He appeared to have found a good pace that I was sure would see him back to Tyndrum.
EDIT: Tw@tter says Mike's cut his foot and is making his way to A&E.

Just at Inchbae now. The first train station he'll pass is Garve, or alternatively press on for Dingwall as there's hopefully a better service.whitestone wrote:Ouch! He was going steady away as well especially given the heat.

Only just catching up with the race. Be a shame for mike if he can't carry on

Dingwall shuts at 6 so Inverness is his best option

Just heard that early race leader Huw Oliver's scratch was due to consuming some dodgy water, resulting in vomiting followed by heatstroke then hospital!!!
Of all the environmental hazards you would expect in the Highlands, water contamination or heat injury would not be near the top of my list...

Just spoke to Mike and he is ok other than his injury. Said he was skinny-dipping and cut his foot on a razor sharp rock, pull the udder one Karl Booth is on his way to pick him up as he was in FA already.
I've just finished smashing my forks to pieces and packing them into an envelope for Enve to put back together!!

I think I'd rather participate on a regular (cold/wet) year as at least you know what's gonna get you.
Seems like it's open season on the riders this year, no rules, the gloves are off etc...
I reckon Alan has a maximum number of finishers he'll allow and has contingencies already in place just in case the Scottish weather doesn't pick enough folks off!

He's getting a check up now.
Tell you what all this riding quiets him down a bit

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2018
Sorry. Just been catching up on things. Been working.
It's pretty fast as expected, and a few unusual scratches. Thing is what's Darran Smith doing? Am I reading it right, an itt started on the Friday? Was he originally in the group start but moved it a day forward to maximise his holiday time or something?

Re: Highland Trail 550 - 2018
In 2015 Javi's freewheel failed, he pushed from Loch Oich to Fort William, borrowed tools from the bike shop there, fixed his freewheel and finished so hopefully he'll sort this mishap out.
Apparently Scott L help Huw down and looking at his spot trace went up the road for a mobile signal to summon help.
Looks Like Fraser has called it a day too...
