MYOG question

Post by MM-on-POINT »

Does any one have any expirence with using glue to bond seems instead of sewing?
I am toying with the idea of making my own bivi bag, a simple design with just a velcro over lap instead of zips and peg out points.
I have even thought of useing tyvex but would prob use a pu pertex or equivelent.

Any thing any one...?

A year ago I used bostick extra strong clear adhesive to put a zip in a waterproof cycling jacket. I then used it on my homemade frame bag to restick the self adhesive Velcro I'd used as the closure as it had started to come unstuck. Both are still going strong but neither of them are put under any real pressure. After gluing I put heavy weights along the full length then let it set for two days.

Contact adhesive will work so long is the material isn't sil coated.
