I'm totally blown away by this app. Perfect for gazing at stars on a clear night and understanding what you're looking at:

Google sky map for android users is also quite fascinating

Planets for iOS is pretty good too. If you're a cheapskate like me it has the bonus if being free. Well, it used to be anyway.
